No, you are better of with a Democrat as governor.

And you are cherry-picking and misleading with your stats. A better statistic is cases per1 million population. By that measure California is doing an outstanding job and certainly doesn't belong on your list.

Instead of the worst states, why not look at the best? If you look at the best 10 states sorted by cases/1M population, you get 6 run by Democrats and 4 by Republicans.

An even better stat would be to also account for population density. When it is all said and done we will find that the states who did the best job are the ones who took early and decisive action on shutting down the state to stop the spread. Those states were mostly run by Democrats.

Therefore, it is almost certain that in general, you are safer with a Democrat as governor.

And the ONE state with 5 of the 13 most populous states in the country be super low in number of virus cases? You are saying Democratic governors did the best job in stopping the spread when all 7 of the worst states are led by Democratic governors? Just confusing.

I can't remember who in the Cuomo administration - maybe the IG or someone similar to that - told Cuomo that the state needed up to 15,000 ventilators to combat a possible pandemic such as this. Cuomo ignored that advice and completely did nothing. When the pandemic DID STRIKE NY - guess how many ventilators Cuomo requested? Ugghhh 15,000! The exact number someone in his administ told him was needed in case of something like this and he chose to ignore. So yes, Cuomo effed up in SPADES!

I have said before that Bush 2 left Obama with 150 million masks and those were pretty much used up in 2009 for the swine flu and Obama chose not to replenish. He had 7 years to replenish and he never did. Trump had 3 years as well to replenish and he chose not to. So both were instrumental in the mass shortage of masks. What I wrote about Cuomo is true.

The federal government knew about a shortage of protective masks going back to 2009, after the H1N1 virus, but didn’t replenish its supply for the next pandemic, which arrived this year with the highly contagious coronavirus.

H1N1, also known as the swine flu, drew down about 100 million N95 protective respirator masks.

Afterward, an H1N1 task force recommended that the Obama administration replace the masks in the national stockpile, according to reporting by the Los Angeles Times and Bloomberg News.

“If the Obama administration didn’t respond to a request for additional masks, and if they did not communicate that need to the incoming [Trump] administration, that would certainly make the present situation more difficult,” Amy Anderson, a registered nurse and co-founder of the Global Nurse Consultants Alliance, told The Daily Signal in a phone interview.

Both the Obama and Trump administrations had adequate time to respond to the task force recommendation before the coronavirus outbreak, said Dr. Lee Gross, who practices family medicine in North Port, Florida, and is president of Docs 4 Patient Care, a national health care advocacy group.

The Obama administration had at least seven years to replenish the stockpile of masks, while the Trump administration had about three.

“Certainly the number of depleted masks were not replaced, and we should know why. It’s been a problem across multiple administrations,” Gross told The Daily Signal in a phone interview.

The N95 masks have a shelf life of five years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, so continuous replacements are necessary.

N95 masks, which fit tightly, are designed to prevent particles in the air from entering the nose or mouth. Regular surgical masks are designed to protect physicians and other medical providers from fluids. The “95” means the masks are approved by the Food and Drug Administration to filter out 95% of particulates.

“One thing about natural disasters is there is a set time where you are expected to be able to provide self-care, usually about 72 hours in a hurricane, before the federal government responds,” Gross said. “The same is true in a pandemic for supplies. Hospitals should have personal protective equipment. The fact that we haven’t demonstrates a flaw in the system.”

Although medical supplies on hand weren’t adequate to respond to the coronavirus, Gross said, it is “unprecedented” territory when “a disease can spread when a carrier doesn’t know they have it.”

It’s not just masks, the physician said. In his own office, he said, he has enough N95 masks and enough tests, but has been unable to get more medical gowns.

If they come out of this with minimum cases and a steady economy, Trump should win that big swing state.

Last week Bloomberg published a story about the mask shortages and how that was making it difficult for hospital workers in various states to take alternative measures to help protect themselves during the coronavirus pandemic, including making masks out of office supplies, and taking masks home to bleach them so they can be reused. It paints a horrible picture of chaos in our nation’s hospitals, and attempts to blame the problem on the Trump administration, because the Strategic National Stockpile, which is maintained by the Health and Human Services Department, is insufficient for the current crisis.

Back in 2005, the Bush administration published the “National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza.” The strategy called for plans to distribute medical supplies from the national stockpile and to assist state and local efforts to handle an outbreak, but last month, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told Congress that the national stockpile of N95 respirator masks was 12 million—a mere fraction of the 1.7 billion masks government scientists estimated back in 2015 would be needed in the event of a severe flu outbreak.

How did we end up with such a low stockpile? It used to be much larger. What happened to it?

Buried several paragraphs deep in the aforementioned Bloomberg story we find out that “after the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009, which triggered a nationwide shortage of masks and caused a 2- to 3-year backlog orders for the N95 variety, the stockpile distributed about three-quarters of its inventory and didn’t build back the supply.”

That's right, the shortage of N95 masks can be traced back to the H1N1 (swine flu) pandemic of 2009... when Barack Obama was president.

A different story from the Los Angeles Times published last week goes into more detail about what happened after the swine flu pandemic depleted the supply. According to their story, “After the swine flu epidemic in 2009, a safety-equipment industry association and a federally sponsored task force both recommended that depleted supplies of N95 respirator masks [...] be replenished by the stockpile.” The problem is that didn’t happen. According to Charles Johnson, president of the International Safety Equipment Association, about 100 million N95 respirator masks were used up during the swine flu pandemic of 2009-2010, but, he said was unaware of any “major effort to restore the stockpile to cover that drawdown.”

In short, even though the Obama administration was advised to replenish the national stockpile of the N95 respirator masks, they didn’t. Despite the fact the media traced the cause of the shortage back to 2009, they accuse Trump of poor planning and trying to deflect responsibility. It doesn't take a genius to know that in 2009 Barack Obama was president, but not once in either story did Bloomberg or the Los Angeles Times link the failure to replenish the N95 respirator masks with Obama or his administration, after they apparently ignored recommendations to do so.

President Trump has received criticism for blaming Obama for various deficiencies in the coronavirus response, and here we have the media tracing one particular deficiency back to the Obama years, and yet they avoid directly linking it by name to his administration. Obama had six years to restore that stockpile and even make it bigger. But he didn’t. Yet, the media today wants you to believe it’s Trump’s fault.

Turns out, Trump was getting his information from a dubious source: Gateway Pundit, a right-wing opinion site that, in a recent post on Cuomo and ventilators, pointed to an obscure state report on planning for pandemics.

As I’ll discuss in minute, the claims about the report were terribly misleading, at best. I’d say they were blatantly dishonest.

This coming election is going to be extremely interesting. The market has already rebounded to about 24,000. I could see it by August up around 28,000 or higher. (See my other thread about 30,000) - If the market is northwards of 28,000 or higher come September and the Coronavirus pandemic has largely improved - and the projected number of American deaths is much lower than the once-projected totals of 100,000 to 240,000 - then Trump is going to be VERY VERY TOUGH to beat come November. Is Sleepy Joe even awake now? I have heard so little from him since the pandemic broke. What the heck has he been doing? I thought he was the presumptive nominee but how many presumptive nominees sleep all day long?
