The good 📈 My body is handling the training load comfortably and I’m nowhere near my limit yet, 300+ weeks are in the near future! A heavy illness (probably picked up during the travel) was partly to blame for Valencia but also… The bad 📉 A major iron overload which causes anaemia-like symptoms was the other half, and this is real problem - it’s not easy getting rid of excess iron in the blood so my performance might have to take a hit in the short term. Will unpack it all in a video soon!
Nick Bester shared his provisional 2026 schedule in his latest video a few days ago and its... interesting?
Kenya training camp from 17th-31st of January followed by a 10k race on February 1st.
What benefit does he think he's going to get from having barely ten good running days at altitude? It takes several days just to adjust to that environment, several weeks to get actual training benefit.
Racing a 10k the day after he flies back is just the cherry on the top. I cannot think of a more perfect way to ruin your 2026 season.
"HOW I NEARLY RAN A 10K PB SIX HOURS AFTER A PLANE FLIGHT"
Oh dear…. after weeks of gleeful crowing by the RTJ doubters post Valencia it’s turned out that the reason for him blowing up so spectacularly in Valencia was nothing to do with his training methods or issue directly or indirectly caused by his training methods
The actual blowup came from him essentially overdosing on iron which is ironically the thing many of the RTJ doubters were so confidently saying he needed to do - have iron infusions and take lots of iron to sort out his deficiency..
Oh the schaudenfraude. No wonder the usual suspects have been so quiet on here the last few days
Um, he was taking those supplements in the first place because he was anemic. And some of his numbers were still borderline with the supplements. So if other numbers are too high, that means he isn't maintaining a healthy balance at his training level. Maybe he can with some different combination! But this doesn't seem like a vindication to me.

Quite possibly ChatGPT, but you'll have to watch the next vid to find out!

Kenya will just be for some click bait content and "vibes". Like his Ethopia trip. Even nick surely knows he wont get any benefit from altitude training in that short space of time. The travel will also give him an excuse for a poor 10k performance. Lets hope for his sake he chooses a better airbnb this time or there might be another BOOMshakalaka
Just discovered FilmMyRun after reading through this whole letsrun post and seeing that Tim Grose described him as his pal. I have a lot of time for TG and enjoy his analysis posts and stat heavy take on running (I think a lot of us runners are absolute stattos with a love for spreadsheets). MARM, another one of the better YouTubers, also seems to like him and had him on his podcast.
Saw a few posts slating FilmMyRun so thought I’d make my own mind up. As it doesn’t take much for a YouTuber to cause offence on here it seems.
First thoughts on watching a few of his videos…. the bloke definitely seems to like the sound of his own voice with slight main character vibes. Put that aside however and he does make some decent videos if you’re into trail running.
Have to admit I can’t really picture Tim Grose, MARM and FilmMyRun all hanging out at the pub. All very different characters.
Ironically, (or not!) Coach MK was bragging in a post last month that Evan has been running for six years without an injury due to his brilliant coaching methods. Then suddenly "It's all just part of the process to have injuries." The guy is apparently developing a coaching business, and Evan's supposed to be the proof of his knowledge. I had a girl that age who did every workout I told her to, and was a state champion at 14. It all changes at 15 when they realize it's your dream not theirs and they start to just feel pressure all the time. The dude is so twisted, that he now deletes virtually every post that doesn't praise him and his kid. I got blocked entirely for suggesting he was full of crap. Hope Evan doesn't end up hating running and resenting her Dad's self-centered abuse.
I know a thing or two about iron deficiency. I can tell you it's difficult to overdose on iron IF the reason for the iron deficiency (in RTJ's case very high mileage) stays unchanged.
If his ferritin levels exceed the recommended values, it's likely he received intravenous iron. It is currently not known what the effect on performance is if ferritin levels are high but still below the toxicity threshold (between 350 and 1000).

He's not your friend. He is trying to sell you something to make a living. There has no chance he becomes your friend so why do you feel the need to defend him so much?
No issues with the lad personally but he is running 20 hours a week. That's too much. It is not needed.
He also hasn't ran a decent marathon is over a year. Is he reviewing his training? Is he making changes? No.
In many ways he's no better, and shows as much understanding about running as Ben Felton and Nick Bester

I think most of us are just waiting for a proper recap before we draw any solid conclusions.
Glad to hear he's got an explanation and a relatively straightforward fix, but a diagnosis of iron overload with no further context kind of raises more questions than answers. It's possible in the longer term in individuals taking OTC supplements if their levels were normal/high to begin with, but the amount you're getting in those is pretty clinically insignificant in someone with an existing deficiency over that time frame unless you're taking a fairly horrifying amount. Repeat infusions could do it, or prescription tablets on a longer timeframe, but either of those cases require GP oversight and repeat blood tests to prevent exactly this scenario because it will mess you up very quickly.
Basically the amount of iron you'd have to take to go from anaemia to those symptoms within a couple of weeks for an otherwise healthy individual is well beyond anyone with a brain, and assuming he's not stupid enough to do that based on the advice of chatGPT and a few Youtube comments it's more likely to be symptomatic of a larger issue- without knowing the actual cause it's at best only part of the story. Hopefully the video will shed a bit more light, as i can't imagine that being particularly satisfactory given the level of performance he's aiming for and the last few A races having been a bit of a sh*tshow.
Speaking of Felton, his girlfriend quit her day job to work on his channel and a big part of her role is designing his “merch”. The first “collection” is a cotton t-shirt with a weird cartoon.

I don't know what amazes me more: someone who was supposedly something in fashion designed something this bad; it's like pre-schoolers made it for a charity event. Or, if they actually think someone will wear a T-shirt with a strapline (ASPIRE TO RUN, RUN TO INSPIRE) a grown man shouts out. Finally, that someone would pay £30 for the privilege.

This is what I meant to say but you did a much better job !

I dont understand how so many fail at making merch in general. Make a plain shirt or sweather. Have an track-oval at the chest, maybe with a subtle "BenIsRunning" or just "BIR" or whatever if you must. Done.
Make something people will wear, its super weird with these overstated designs. Let it be a subtle nod to those who also watch the channel, not something that screams "LOOK AT ME I RUN AND WATCH YOUTUBE AND I LOVE THIS DUDE".
RTJ should make one that says ran to Japan in Kanji, normal colours.

Coach MK is worse than Seth. At least Seth’s craziness was on himself whereas MK is pushing his craziness on his children. MK’s oldest daughter apparently split from the house as she could no longer tolerate 4am 10 mile runs as being normal. MK labeled it as “studying abroad” which effectively means she moved in with her mother.
I am surprised he is not getting as much critical attention as some of these other YouTubers.
