a serious country would watch trumps congratulating himself for good ratings while americans were dying and losing their jobs and immediately decide never ever ever to vote for him or his people again.
The US is not so much a "serious country" but a country whose democracy is in a seriously bad way.

If it's a cure then the pandemic is over. But it isn't. Feel free to ingest some. Preferably from your fish tank.

We shipped to China in February, at least three weeks after the virus was already here.
I’m pretty sure China would ship to the US right now solely because of $$$.
You mean we would have to outbid the other countries? I'd rather be getting supplies because of goodwill.
And with China's manufacturing power, they are in a position to send us many times what we sent them. That little bit of kindness to China might be the thing that saves us from Tiny's lack of action on producing PPE domestically.
Ahem . . . because of Trump's tariffs on Chinese medical equipment.
"In the last two years, Trump's policy has forced China to divert the sales of these products—including protective gear for doctors and nurses and high-tech equipment to monitor patients—from the United States to other markets."

China needed that equipment. That equipment may have saved lives in China and slowed the spread of the virus. Now China is in a position to return the favor and they are starting to do just that. This is how international cooperation is supposed to work and I applaud the Trump administration for abandoning its "America First" policy in this instance.
This seems like a good point.

I totally agree with that. The tariffs were stupid policy all around. To this day, nobody seems to be able to give a rational explanation for them.

So Trump deliberately sacrificed supplies despite warnings, knowing China would have a huge inventory after quickly fighting off its pandemic. IMO, he wanted a chip for the resumption of the trade war.

Honestly, I doubt that Tiny personally knew we were sending the PPE. If so, he probably would have stopped it out of spite.
China tariffs accomplish many things for our Psycho-in-Chief. Publicity, market manipulation, a new agreement with customized, personal benefits, etc.

Unless he tested the drugs himself, it was reckless for him to promote one before it had been tested and approved. Without naming any, he should said there were some existing drugs were being tested that seemed to have potential to fight off the virus.

Compares well to Lincoln at Gettysburg, doesn't it - or vintage Churchill, "we will fight them on the beaches". Homer Simpson has become the leader of the Free World. Actually, that's unfair to Homer.
If we had adequate PPE supplies for our own doctors and nurses I could understand shipping tonnes of our to China, but we did not and do not have adequate supplies.
A costly blunder that left American doctors and nurses exposed.

To buy the same products back will cost a lot more money because of Trump's tariffs on those products.
Yeah, run with it! Trump would say
“We will fight them on FaceBook, we will fight them on Twitter...
“And if this nation were invaded by Democracy, which I do not for one moment believe, our misinformation trolls would fight them in Cyberspace in every corner of the Earth, and if they were defeated, avatar bots would take the struggle into the Ether forever!”

Serious question - in the US federal system of government, how is the fault of the White House if hospitals are understocked in equipment?
In normal every day to day circumstances I understand your point.
But during a global pandemic, one the administration knew was coming and declared a National Emergency then they have to take ownership.
