Of course, the data on severity of illness is very solid. Almost all hospitalizations and deaths are coming from the unvaccinated.

My point is just that it seems like breakthrough cases are becoming more prevalent than previously expected. I'm glad vaccinated people are well protected from serious illness. But if breakthrough cases are common, it means that a lot of asymptomatic, vaccinated people are also spreading covid.

If Americans were 500 miles away but an Afghan interpreter was at the airport then the Afghan got the seat.

No one was forcing Americans to stay behind to get Afghan out instead.

I don't believe this is known today. We don't know the extent to which asymptomatic vaccinated people are spreading Delta. If you have a recent study that includes transmission rates of asymptomatic vaccinated people in the age of Delta strain, please share.

Americans knew this was coming ever since Trump made the deal with the Taliban in 2020. They had plenty of time to prepare. Those who didn’t get out knew they were taking a risk. Those who found themselves stuck there over these last several days need to get to the airport. So far we have no reports of the Taliban preventing any Americans from getting through their checkpoints on their way to the airport.

There was a temporary gap in security at the airport due to the miscalculation that the Afghan government would be able to hold together for long enough. The airport has since been secured and countries are flying their people out, slowly but they are doing it. So far there have been zero American deaths. We can expect that the only Americans staying behind are those who want to for some reason.

This is all pure hysteria from desperate tzees. Biden fked up by jumping the gun on his words earlier. He should have hedged and now he’s paying a political price. He still did the right thing by pulling us out. The issues were explained and until this evacuation effort is pretty much done he has nothing of value to give to the press. The media will continue to scramble for any crumb of information and drama they could get.

5,700 a day sounds like a large number - good news.

Fox News:

The Pentagon says over the last 24 hours, 5,700 people have been evacuated from Kabul aboard 16 Air Force C-17s.

That’s 356 per flight, just over max capacity on the aircraft and a significant increase over a day before when flights were departing nearly half empty.

A total of 12,700 people have now been evacuated since Aug. 14.

Kabul fell to the Taliban a day later.
