Stinson isn't a professional runner - unless he gets enough money from purely race appearance / prize money.

He is a marketer. His job is to market Saucony and other brands via his large Instagram audience. The fact that he does this by running at a sub-elite level is irrelevant. If he halved his marathon time to double his followers, he'd be a lot richer. If he could only run a 6 hour marathon but had 10 million follower, he'd be a millionaire.

The biggest change seems to be around Chinatown. The course makes a very sharp turn onto Cermak that used to not be there. not certain why Chicago felt the need to change the course so much.

I didn’t see exactly when Galen dropped back. What mile was it? What exactly happened?

110% agree. I'm normally a huge proponent of NBC Sports Gold. I think the price is completely reasonable for the amount of top tier races you get each year. But this was embarrassingly bad. Aside from the random cuts away from the lead pack of the men's race during key parts of the race, having to listen to the guy go on and on about his brother's wife who runs 3 hrs was brutal. Talking about his training, her training, etc. As others occasionally do here, I like to put it in the perspective of majors sports. Can you imagine in the middle of a Lakers/Celtics game if Tommy Heinsohn went off on a tangent about how well his niece was shooting in the driveway the other day?

Braun and rupp are in there 30’s!

If Parker can stay healthy and get in good blocks of training over the next few years I think he could make the Olympic team in 2020 and run 2:08/2:09 by then.

On the Telemundo feed you saw some of it. Maybe around Mile 22(?), he dropped a tiny bit off the back of the top 6, held it there briefly, and then it started to open up gradually. Over the course of next ten minutes, he probably lost about 20 seconds, before the front 5 started to fracture some more.

Galen held form, and looked good in the long shots, just couldn't keep pace with Mo's dropping it to 4:40-ish.

When Kirui blew up fairly suddenly with 2 miles or so left, it was pretty clear G would probably catch him, but everybody else held up quite well, so that was all he could get back.

It was right around when the men’s wheelchair race was ending, maybe at the 1:42 mark. That would make it about 20 mins or 4 miles from the finish

This is hilarious. On many threads this year Rupp fanboys have claimed he is the best marathoner not named Eliud Kipchoge and he'd be in the mix for Olympic gold. To be beaten by Osako is a major upset and a huge blow to Rupp. No one on this site would have bet that Osako would cross the line before Rupp. Armchair experts here dismissed Geremew since he's a Dubai champ and "they don't win after Dubai" despite the fact that Desisa is a dubai champ and two time Boston winner. How'd that work out? Mo completely dismantled the field today except for Geremew who still ran well, and in London Mo was utterly destroyed by Kipchoge and Kitata. The amount of times I read "Rupp will run 2:03:XX" on here was ridiculous. But of course in less than 2 months time all will be forgotten and Rupp will resume being the savior again.

Mr. Rupp is getting long in the tooth.

definitely past his prime and on the decline.

not a savior but continues to be the top American.
