NYU didnt run great at Metro's, but my best guess is they are burning ass training like mad men for the part of the season that counts. The revamped VCP course is harder than the normal course, there is very little time between the backhills and cemetary, maybe 3:30, old way was 6+ minutes on flats. Lee should be further up, but as usual you are giving no credit to maybe Maher being Legit.
Maher, AA in XC last year, qualified indoor in mile and DMR. Ran a good 5k outdoor. NYU's top 4-5 are as good as anyone if they all run the way they are capable on the same day. Obviously not always the easiest thing to do for any team.
Guess we will see how close they can come to Alleghany this weekend in Ohio.
It doesn't matter what Maher or anyone did in the past. Running a good race last spring doesn't move your team up in the standings now. We have current results to judge where people are.
That said, I think that they are underrated right now and I think that they'll show up to race at Oberlin. Obviously it's about the fastest course there is but we'll get to see how their team stacks up. I bet they make some noise and their guys start running like the should be.
Also, a bit about Cortland's race tomorrow (Penn State National Invite). Right now there is about an inch and a half of snow on Penn State's course with more snow predicted tonight and a high of 35 or so tomorrow, so safe to say the times will be extremely slow. It's also a curvy, rolling course on grass, so it should be a fun time. It's unfortunate because it will be tough to compare their times with Geneseo's on the same course back in September. We'll get that matchup in a couple weekends anyways.
