Waiting for confirmation but JSerra is said to have 4:20 1600 transfer enrolled to add to their bag. Would make 4 runners under 4:20.
Looks like it's Taye Newman that has transferred to JSerra and he has 14:44 credentials along with 1:55-4:13 relay and 9:25 times according to PrepCal twit/X.
Clovis was his first race with the Jserra varsity, and he was their #1 there
more california teams should try to go out to this next year. It's real xc and prepares you well for nxn. Parra went there with his team last year and did quite well at nxn.
Why would CA teams go all the way out there instead of going to Clovis? You say more teams should go there to get ready for NXN. Exactly how many teams from CA know they are going to NXN to focus on that instead of State?
D2 is looking insanely deep this season with Griffin Kushen having the leading. However, I feel like so far most of the D2 Juggernauts (Kushen, Stefanopolous, and Daillak) have shown their prowess in Clovis. I am wondering- if Caldwell was thrown in there, how would he fair against those 3?

And D2 has some good teams too, unlike last year when the winning team took 7th in the merge. But this year, Jesuit is the #2 team overall in the state right now, and there is also Glendora which took 5th yesterday and has guys who will be pushing the Jesuit guys to do their best, which will put Jesuit in good position in the merge
Always love my section representing besides Holman and Burr (who’s literally sidelined rn)- our section doesn’t really have many standouts atm (we do have a history of standouts from German Fernandez, Strangio, Grijalva, and Vernau). Oakdale got robbed, but Jesuit will show up for our section.

Right now? Probably a winner. I don't think people understand how nuts 14:27.1 on Crystal Springs is. Here is a list of runners who have run slower than that on the same course:
Jay Marden (8:51)
Mark Mastalir (4:04.1/8:10/8:51)
Eric Mastalir (4:04.2/8:07/8:44/14:01)
Jesse Torres (8:52)
Nolan Topper (4:07/8:48)
Grant Morgenfeld (4:05/8:41)
Matt Guisto (if you know, you know)
I could seriously see Caldwell going 14:3x on Woodward later this season.

Caldwell has always run better the more severe the hills are. Too bad Mt Sac changed their course this year, I would have liked to have seen him go for that record as well. Woodward is not quite as ideal for him as Crystal Springs, so I wouldn't say "probably" a winner, but he probably has as good a shot as anyone else.
Here is an updated Cal merge based scoring table, based *only* on speed ratings run *this year", with each runner's best result over the year being used. Clovis was really fast speed rating wise, and so those results dominate the rankings, so any teams that were not there really dropped (like Mira Costa and Redondo among others).

I’d say Caldwell has a good shot- it either be between him or Kushen. And Ik people are going to bring up Aydon, and he has been on roll, but I just don’t think he’s on the same level as Kushen or Caldwell rn. Kushen quite literally improved exponentially from 15:20 5k and 14:10 3mil (I believe he was injured beginning of Junior season according to an interview with Dystat) to 14:43 and 13:59. Griffin Kushen quite literally seems unstoppable on paper as of now- I haven’t seen this amount of improvement since Fitchen-Young’s monstrous state meet race.

Aydon improved from 14:23 Woodbridge and 15:16 Crystal as a junior to 14:00 Woodridge and 14:53 Crystal as a senior - with both of the former done under a huge training load. Despite his performance at Clovis, I think he will be in the mix at the state meet because of how well he peaks.
One team I want to highlight is Cresenta Valley. I never expected them to get 6th at Clovis. They didn't seem to have anywhere near the talent as some of the other teams. That coach is impressive

Crescenta Valley has gotten top 10 in the merge at CIF finals no matter how many seniors they lose. They always reload

While Fitchen-Young’s performance was impressive, I wouldn’t say his improvement was (understand the distinction?). His strong performance was kind of expected based off of his track PR‘s and his insane performance at Crystal Springs earlier that year (14:55) with no one to push him. Can you tell me otherwise?
central coast section team rankings based on XCstats data
Clovis was Branham's first speed rated race of the year, and I had forgotten to enter their data. With that race, they score 796, but still well behind Menlo and Bellarmine in my ratings. I am hoping TullyRunners will speed rate Crystal Springs, so I can get some more data on De La Salle, an NC team that is hard to rate at this point.

based off your data what are your thoughts on this: do you think it's possible for beckman and jesuit ca can be as good as Dana Hills(10th) and San Clemente(8th) last year?
Not sure why Dyestat keeps ranking GO so highly. There are 3-4 teams better than them right now with actual results on paper. Bob Firman didn't do much to put confidence in their current roster without the other Brown brother and that's assuming he magically returns to being their #1/#2 runner after super long absence from injury.
It should be power rankings of current results not what they could do if everyone was healthy.
According to this article, he’s pegged for a late-season return from injury. This doesn’t guarantee that he will return to peak fitness come state though
