The warmer weather will mean a slower pace for the first half or even more, and if Hassan is still there after 22-23 miles it is all over. She has to be the favorite right now.
If she had gone out a little slower today she would have run 2:12. She is an amazing runner.
I think you guys could do a pretty decent post mortem of the NBC stream, separate from the race summary. I think a breakdown of why these marathon streams are not set up well might be a good thing in the small chance NBC people see the article. The problem is, right now, the criticisms of NBC broadcasts are just sporadic forum posts and tweets. Effectively, write a piece on all the areas these NBC streams are failing and offer solutions (e.g., PIP of the race should be on at all times, a clock should be on the screen at all times). Maybe a collaboration with other outlets like Citius. It may end up doing nothing, but if presented as an article with good intentions / constructive feedback to improve the overall spectating experience maybe it could land in an NBC exec's inbox down the line.
Aside from not having a clock on camera and switching to a local news segment with just a few minutes left in the men's race, the commentary was frustrating to listen to for me. One of the ladies was excited, and it's mean of me to say, but they should have muted her. Exclaiming things like, "Look at her go!" and saying things that were incorrect (e.g. said Mantz ran 2:08:16 at the finish when she didn't understand the context of the announcer saying that was his time last year) was annoying and at times interrupted the other commentators. The other commentators were fine and seemed to offer more substance. Maybe that one commentator was from the local news crew and doesn't have a running background, which is fine, but that person should let the others do the vast majority of the talking.
Mantz ran slower than Steve Jones did 40 years ago on this course. In his prime he is just one minute faster than Rupp in his old age. Going to bet 100 Kenyans and 50 Ethiopians could beat Mantz. Not a good look for the USA in the marathon.
Mantz runs a PR and meets his goal for the day. Congrats to all the Americans. Best American showing in a single marathon event in a long time. Maybe ever.
"Maybe ever." Why do you say that? It's not the fastest American time or best placing ever.

We don’t often have 4 guys under 2:09/9 under 2:11:30.
Let’s hope Kelvin doesn’t let the money and fame go to his head and pull a Sammy Wanjiru.
Siffan is a perhaps one of the most gifted runners to ever to lace up the super sneakers, male or female with her incredible range.
If Connor Mantz can PR by 30 seconds in his next 10 ‘Thons he may be competitive with the East Africans.
It’s unfortunate there was almost zero video coverage of the Americans so we can gauge Rupp’s and Bates late race mechanics and health.
Galen’s positive for race was no DNF. Race negative wad missing the standard. If I were him I’d call his old boss Alberto to get some advice going forward.
