My post was removed. Anyways, there are a lot of good discussions in this thread, particularly between Jeff and Adult. You should consider running for public offices if you haven’t already done so. Both of you should get my votes.
First off these black people are not the ones who wrote this or approved it. False.
SS.68.AA.2.3. Examine the various duties and trades performed by slaves. (The slaves were forced to do whatever their masters said or face severe physical punishment or death)
Benchmark Clarifications:
Instruction includes how slaves developed skills, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit. (WTF!) Their labor was for the benefit of the slavemaster, not them.
SS.912.AA. 1.1 Examine the condition of slavery as it existed in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe prior to 1619. Why is this in African-American history? That pertains to other world history...
Benchmark clarification: include instruction of the Barbery Pirates who kidnapped Europeans and sold them to Muslim countries. WTF! Total deflection from African-Americans history
Also says include how slavery was used in Asia. How it was used by natives in the Americas.
All this is to deflect from the chattel slavery in America and the Caribbean.
Zero mandated instruction of who conceived and implemented the largest forced migration in human history....ie the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. But they force the kids to learn about slavery in Asia or the middle east....but call it Muslim countries in an attempt to paint a religion as evil...when in fact many Christian Slave owners justified slavery as bringing blacks to Christianity. SMH...
SS.912.AA.3.6
Benchmark Clarification 2:
Instruction includes acts of violence perpetrated against and by African-Americans but not limited to; 1906 Atlanta Race Riot, 1919 Washington DC Race Riot, 1920 Ocoee Massacre, 1921 Tulsa Massacre and 1923 Rosewood Massacre. WTF!
All of these and dozens more were started by racist white mobs murdering black men, women and children and destroying...billions in today $ worth of buildings and property and businesses.
It's funny they want kids to know about slavey everywhere on the planet during African-American history teachibg, but glaringly omitted the Berlin Conference. Where white European nations discussed carving up Africa and still to this day, most of its present day borders are from that or that most only gained independence in the 1960's and 1970's from their colonizers. Or that because of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade the population growth of Africa stopped for 500 years.
They glaringly omitted King Leopold II...who chopped off the limbs of tens of thousands kids who he enslaved to work the rubber trees in the Congo. He enslaved Africans in Africa!
Fix some of these lies and omissions and it's OK.
Also need to talk about reparations...as everyone but blacks and have received them. British, French and American slave owners received reparations....but not the slaves or their decendents.
Florida haters are going bananas over new curriculum related to slavery, but the AP African American studies course DeSantis banned (because it included gender theory) had the EXACT same information.
"In addition to agricultural work, enslaved people learned specialized trades and worked as painters, carpenters, tailors, musicians, and healers in the North and South. Once free, American Americans used these skills to provide for themselves and others." AP African American Studies Official Course Framework, Project, and Exam Overview – Effective 2023-2024 (page 72).

I think you may be missing the point if you think that the critique of these reforms is about the inclusion of factual irregularities of a racist kind. Desantis is not lying when he says that this curriculum is based on facts, and was created by bona fide historians. But Desantis is a self-proclaimed "anti-woke" cultural crusader, bent on vetting everything in sight according to his special kind of revisionism.
His targets from the start have been 1. The idea that slavery was unequivocally bad; and 2. The idea that, to the extent that the institution was was genuinely evil, it had longer term structural effects or consequences; that it is not entirely confined to the remote historical past, and has had long term structural effects. This approach is a staple of conservative historiography of slavery, the Civil War, and Reconstruction (a historiography that does not have very wide acceptance AT ALL within the profession, BTW).
The truth of what Desantis and Co. are really trying to do can be seen not in what is included in the new curriculum, but in which scholars and which histories he was determined to see expunged from it.
Desantis claims to decry the "politicization" of American history; yet, all he seems to care about are the political uses to which things, including American history, human sexuality, etc, can be put. And fair enough. He and his supporters should just stop claiming they are dealing in objective reality while the other side is dealing in ideology. In other words, just stop the disingenuousness. The other side never claims that it isn't on the side of a particular kind of political order (a more equal and democratic one), even as it strives for the truth of things. Why can't Desantis and the right just come right out and say what kind of a country and society they envision for us all, and how they think it might actually, practically work, instead of just blindly attacking things and settling old scores? Do they honestly think that their "enemies" across this massive and complex country are just going to stand down or somehow go away? If they do, they probably need to get offline for a little while and see what kind of a country they are actually living in. This little reactionary fit they are now having is going to be smothered by the general cultural tendency of Americans to simply live and let live, and always favor erring on the side of greater individual, personal freedom, as far as this is compatible with the general good.

Secondly you mentioned DeSatan and AP African-American Studies. The entire planet knows he hates anything and everything black or anything that puts in a positive light. He purposely goes after anything black, but is silent on all the other AP courses. I wonder why.
Of course slaves painted, built, repaired and performed for whites in hundreds of tasks. Newsflash, they were forced to. We could have done all that labor without being enslaved. That glaring fact went completely over your head. Pointing out that a slave was a blacksmith, tailor or carpenter is moot. They were slaves doing whatever they were told to do for the express benefit of their slave master for life.
Thirdly, African-Americans have been speaking out against any lies told about our history on this continent. You are just now hearing it and listening.

"In the state of Florida, they decided middle school students will be taught enslaved people benefited from slavery!" ~ Kamala Harris
All Kamala seems to care about are the political uses to which things, including American history, human sexuality, etc, can be put. The fact is that this new curriculum includes sections on “the conditions for Africans during their passage to America”; “the living conditions of slaves in British North American colonies, the Caribbean, Central America and South America, including infant mortality rates”; “the harsh conditions and their consequences on British American plantations (e.g., undernourishment, climate conditions, infant and child mortality rates of the enslaved vs. the free)”; “the harsh conditions in the Caribbean plantations (i.e., poor nutrition, rigorous labor, disease)”; “how the South tried to prevent slaves from escaping and their efforts to end the Underground Railroad”; the “overwhelming death rates” caused by the practice; the many ways in which “Africans resisted slavery”; “the ramifications of prejudice, racism and stereotyping on individual freedoms”; and “the struggles faced by African American women in the 19th century as it relates to issues of suffrage, business and access to education.” Many of these modules apply to Florida specifically.
Don't like Florida's new approach....move to a BLUE state with more woke curriculum.
This is federalism at work. This is what our founders envisioned.
Each state having a say in constructing their own laws and standards.

A very slippery and disingenuous reply. “The left” is pointedly clear about what kind of country and society it envisions, and that’s the problem for the right. They think a more egalitarian and personally free USA represents some kind of apocalypse. They know what they hate but can’t propose any kind of sustainable, liveable alternative for the majority of actually existing Americans. This is why they prefer endless, angry culture ways. It’s a purely minoritarian discourse, and it will fail— or fail the country if it ever gets anywhere politically.

The only thing new.....is that before the didn't even teach about the horrors of 250 years of chattel slavery and the United States being one of the last countries to abolish it, and only when we had to fight a war because half of white America thought they could own black people forever.

What you also conveniently dismiss, is that in most states when teaching about America's 250 years of chattel slavery, other states governors don't comment about it or any course, let alone AP African-American History courses. But DeSatan does and proves what a complete racist POS he is to his racist POS base.
Maybe if they didn't lie and say slaves learned skills that were beneficial to them and that African-Americans perpetuated violence while they were mascaraed. Notice other state don't make this a rule.
I'm not sold on this regression to the mean nonsense. 2 tall people tend to have tall kids. 2 smart people tend to have smart kids. I think it's unlikely that the children of smart parents always regress to the mean in IQ just as it is unlikely that the children of tall parents would always regress to the mean in height.
I'm not a geneticist, but the regression doesn't make a ton of sense to me either. However, the same guy who wrote that article also wrote this:
IQ heritability is estimated to be between .5 and .8 or so, so maybe if it's like .8, the regression wouldn't be nearly as strong. I still think it's basically untenable to believe that any race populations true average intelligence is a full standard deviation below another. Like I said, I'm not opposed to any and all differences, but that's such a big claim to make and at the expense of so many people that I think it's a pretty awful and stupid thing to do.
Hey at least you admit you just aren't willing to agree with certain facts because you don't like them. Many today still hide behind pseudo-scientific skepticism and rationalizations behind why they aren't willing to believe in a hereditary basis of racial IQ gaps.

It's disingenuous for the left to pretend that the US is some racist hell hole the way they do.
The utopian dream they think the US is failing to live up to doesn't exist anywhere on the planet.
If you want to experience actual racism travel abroad for awhile.

Harris is working as Joe Biden's VP - you know, the guy she claimed to think was a racist for opposing desegration - so I think it's safe to say she doesn't give a flying f*ck about black/white race issues.

All of these places are 100% run by THE LEFT and are third world dystopian nightmares of poverty, crime, drug use and under performing schools. Blue States, in general, suck horribly and this why people cannot move out of them fast enough.

It was just devastating.” “I would hope that every person in our country — and certainly running for president — would appreciate that,” he added. “People have bad days. Sometimes they regret what they say. And we should ask them again to clarify their positions.”

Tell us he's wrong, Trumptards!
He's not wrong, but his idea that ANYONE is making the argument that slaves benefitted from slavery is stupid at best and disingenuous at worst. Some slaves did learn trade skills that they used to their benefit - like earning money, improving their quality of life, buying their freedom (I'd say that would be a benefit in comparison to being a slave) - but no one is saying that being a slave was a net benefit. I don't know why people can't, or refuse, to comprehend this.
