You are ignorant. The issue isn't that the government needs the documents, as they have them all in electronic format. The issue is that Trump isn't supposed to have them unless they are in a location that meets stringent security requirements. A padlocked basement in Trump's hotel/club doesn't meet those requirements.
He isn’t supposed to have them at all! Biden wisely revoked Trump’s security clearance knowing he was and remains a threat to the safety and security of the United States. Trump is lifelong grifter and career criminal and now, a traitor peddling state secrets.

2) Trump was treated with kid gloves all along the way and given ample time to return the illegally taken materials including asking and then issuing a subpoena.
3) Merrick Garland sat back and let Republicans make fools of themselves and now has given them a huge "f*ck you!"
4) Trump has the opportunity to oppose the release of the search warrant. He will look bad if he does. He will look bad if he doesn't (because the stuff he kept and refused to give back is damning).

The division in this country has grow exponentially since Trump took office. The right and the left to a much less extent are skillful in playing tribal politics of everything. Take for example Trump's most recent response. He basically says "it's me against the radical Democrats, so if you're not a radical Democrat, [the enemy] you will rally to my side." He's counting on tribalism to save him. At any other time in America, left and right would readily recognize the insanity of such a statement. But his Cult will read that and gobble it up.
