In his defence, I also ran that day, and conditions were atrocious. That film my run fella also did it in just under 7 hours, and he's capable of much better times for that distance + elevation.
As another poster said, if he could only run 4 days a week (simply baffling that he works on the channel and only just started doing this) he shouldn't have done an ultra, and would probably enjoy running a lot more if he just got better at shorter distances first.
I find it interesting that Runna would be happy to have that video published. For me, it's a terrible advert for the app. A real coach would have said work on smaller distances for a while, or at the very least thought to program steady hikes on hills knowing the elevation of the course and that he basically run walked the last half of his
6:10 marathon. A real coach might have rightly said "look mate, be realistic here, let's make the shorter stuff better first".
I get that Tom is seen as an inspiration for a lot of their channel's viewers because he's not Andy Baddely or because he's like them and struggles a lot with motivation. But the truth is he simply doesn't train enough. He can't be. It's the same weird torture porn territory they had with that Anna presenter who'd struggle to finish her races from not training enough.
