I’m more concerned when congressman buy stock in an industry and then pass a law that helps that industry, sending their stock up.

Or take campaign contributions and deregulate their businesses or give special tax breaks.

A lot of people sold when they saw the virus coming.

I agree. My parents are in their late 70s, and they had been thinking of going more conservative for a while with their stocks. The only reason they hadn't is because with Social Security and my Dad's pension, they didn't even need the money they had invested in stocks. They went uber conservative a day before the big crashing started. A little bit of luck on their part with the timing, but they did decide to do it when the virus spread seemed to be getting worse.

But news of the virus spreading and the idea that there may be affects on the travel industry was very much public information at the time of the senate briefing.

Plenty of civilians were selling at the same time.

The optics may be bad, but we really have more serious problems than what speculators lost money buying the stocks they sold.

If there is a case to answer they should not get away with it. Evidence suggests they dropped stocks immediately AFTER a senate briefing, that’s critical, regardless of your own personal opinion or spin.

Trump is responsible for the seating in his pressroom. That is something he could have asked to be fixed before the briefing. But the close seating was intentional to allow him to create a soundbite that bites the people he hates most, the real media which gives out real information about what he says – he cannot stand the truth being told.
