SOOOOO - we have had 100 very elderly die in 3 months. Last year 80,000 died of the flu. Which is worse? 100 old folks dying or 80,000 dying? This is not a crisis.

Ha, btw I agree with you about Trumps response and body language to this crisis.
He’s not up for the fight.
Agreed. he has bumbled this.

This is correct, but this observation was made by reasonable thinking people well before now. What you wrote applies to Trump from Day 1 as President.
There is a difference though between a once-in-a-while saying of the correct thing and being fully aware of what is going on. I remain skeptical about you for now and sense this could be a way for you to try to deflect some justified criticism you have been getting, so I'm not going to compliment you just yet. As I see it, you are more in danger of sliding back to supporting Trump and the enabling GOP than you are in actually determining what is right for America. Trump is a crook and a liar and a very bad justifiably-impeached President. We will see if some synapses have formed in you or not. Again, I am skeptical, but I will be open-minded. It's all on you.
You may not like Joe Biden and everything he stands for, hell, I don't like everything he stands for, but he will be your choice in November if you truly believe the things you are now saying about Trump. Biden is not perfect, but he is up to the task. He will appoint others who are also up to their task. He's a moderate. He's a gun owner. He is not a narcissist and he is secure enough to know when he needs expert opinion to help his governing.

Ok, I will be nice in how I say this, but you are incorrect here. It's a declared pandemic, tons of people are out of work as a result, the stock market has crashed well below even bear market territory, we have disruption of goods and services, we have temporarily lost some of our freedoms, the US government is going to have to spend billions if not more in helping us through this economic disaster, and more and more are still going to die. It is a crisis no matter how you slice it. You are simply wrong about that.

Smoburn - I have to say that was a very thoughtful and reasoned post. Nice one!
Trigged is clueless. He never checks the news, he just spends all his time trying to prove it’s fake, while trying to prove trump is honest.

This is true. Rigged, you'd better watch out, Sally is showing he might actually have more brain power than you. Still an open question, but he is at least saying the right things for now. Quoting the Epoch Times is not a persuasive strategy. Really really stupid in fact.
OK, I have crunched the numbers on two scenarios where significant actions are taken to slow the spread of COVID-19. I will use as my base case the same Case 1 from my previous post with one change. Case 1 assumes that the number of individuals actually infected with COVID-19 is 2x the number of reported cases.
The change that I am making here is in the "fatality rate". In all of these scenarios I am referring to the fatality rate among diagnosed individuals. As such, it makes more sense to use the currently observable 4% as the fatality rate. If the fatality rate among all individuals is substantially lower because many more individuals are infected than are diagnosed this does not in any way change the relevant number that I am using, referring to fatalities/diagnoses.
///
Case 1: Total actual infected individuals = 2x what is being reported.
- 165 million Americans will get COVID-19. Of these, 82 million will show symptoms and be diagnosed.
- 32 million will require hospitalization
- 90% of those hospitalized (29 million) would recover IF there were sufficient hospital facilities to properly care for them. Under this scenario, there will be nowhere near enough hospital facilities and the death toll will be much higher than the 3 million projection.
- The peak of the pandemic would occur BEFORE THE END OF MAY. At its peak the reported new cases would be about 3.5 million PER DAY (IF we had the capacity to process that information).
///
Case 1A: Substantial mitigating efforts (loose shelter in place, etc.) taken three weeks from now cutting the daily growth in cases in half within two weeks of implementation.
- Close to 100 million Americans will get COVID-19. Of these, 50 million will show symptoms and be diagnosed.
- 20 million will require hospitalization
- 90% of those hospitalized (18 million) would recover IF there were sufficient hospital facilities to properly care for them. The death toll will be 2 million or higher.
- The peak of the pandemic would occur by mid-June. At its peak the reported new cases would be about 600,000 PER DAY (IF we had the capacity to process that information).
///
Case 1B: Extreme mitigating efforts (full lock down, etc.) taken IMMEDIATELY, cutting the daily growth in cases UNDER 2% within two weeks.
- 125,000 Americans will get COVID-19. Of these, 62,000 will show symptoms and be diagnosed.
- 25,000 will require hospitalization
- 90% of those hospitalized (22,500) would recover. The death toll would be about 2,500
- The peak of the pandemic would occur by early April
///
That's what the numbers say. 3 million dead or 2,500 dead. That is the choice this nation faces.
Trump’s tweeting away, changing all his statements at the press conference. He’s at a loss what to do.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson (a Trump lackey) says it is no big deal if
Ron Johnson: “I’m not denying what a nasty disease COVID-19 can be, and how it’s obviously devastating to somewhere between 1 and 3.4 percent of the population. But that means 97 to 99 percent will get through this and develop immunities and will be able to move beyond this. But we don’t shut down our economy because tens of thousands of people die on the highways. It’s a risk we accept so we can move about. We don’t shut down our economies because tens of thousands of people die from the common flu.”
Assuming 2% of Americans are "devastated", and knowing there are 330 millions Americans, then...
6.6 MILLION AMERICANS DYING from this virus is no big deal to Republican Senator Ron Johnson.
https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/analysis/2020/03/18/coronavirus-sen-ron-johnson-says-keep-outbreak-perspective/5074145002/my main interest has been fatality rates in the big three countries: Iran, Italy and Spain.
And there the news has been generally good for the past few days. With some outlier numbers.
The good news today is that the growth of deaths in those three countries was just 8%. Whereas the average growth rate for the last 10 days has been roughly double that. So there is some evidence that things are, well, getting worse more slowly in those three countries, considered as a unit.
I'd prefer to consider them separately, but the data is very noisy that way...Spain's daily death count was down to 105 today, from 191 yesterday. But Italy was up sharply today.
But as P has correctly pointed out, other countries are moving up the curve. France, USA, UK had a grisly day.
Germany continues to be a success story: just 2 new deaths today. I hope what Germany is doing can be learned.
Total deaths around the globe continue to double every five days, consistently. Awful stuff.
The hope, other than chemisty-science: We saw a curve established in China, Japan, SK. Is that curve establishing itself in Italy/Spain/Iran? Maybe - too early and noisy data. But maybe. And if it is, that has to be good news for the rest of world, as more countries might be expected to follow the same curve.

Good post.
Just remember - those countries (China, Japan, SK) did not establish a "hopeful" curve by magic. They established a better curve by very serious actions (with very serious economic consequences).
Sen. Ron Johnson is a traitor. If he’s too lazy to do anything, he should quit. He voted against the relief bill today, just to show how “different” he is.
How about the 103 year old woman in Iran who got the virus and recovered!
And she’s only the second oldest to get it and survive.
A Chinese person that was a bit older recovered.

Hillary "voted" to not provide the needed extra security that the brave soldiers in Benghazi pleaded for. Are their deaths on her?
