Because the limited capacity to handle any new patients is the reason for the social distance restrictions.

If we had a ton of medical providers and resources, we could let people go out and do things as usual.

Then treat people as needed. And yes, there'd be more vulnerable people dying.

We're not going to save everyone. But we can't handle treating all of the savable at the moment.

but even though that isno doubt true, a stable number of daily deaths and daily new cases suggests the top of the curve may be in sight. That seems to be an important fact. Esp since if Italy confirms the Asian curve tops, in a similar manner. Then you can extrapolate to other countries.

Sure, but those cancellations are going to extend out and build.

Then those cancellations will meet the burden of the anxiety you mentioned.

People that make money serving people (which is a large number) have no income every single day.

If you work in a mall, you are losing money daily.

I am personally pretty insulated from any financial concerns. I consider myself lucky, and I know there are a lot of people that are affected. I'm not trying to minimize this. I have a lot of friends who are touring musicians and I spend much of my time and disposable income on live events.

If, for example, somebody could say, we will start having large events again in June, that would alleviate my anxiety. I'm not suggesting that is realistic. Just that the unknown aspect of it is driving my experience more than the actual cancellations.

I think there are so many variables in this that it is impossible to make projections within a reasonable range.

And you don't know if there will be second waves.

There may be a ton of people misdiagnosed one way or the other and that shuffles the calculations again.

The more you look at the numbers and understand the sources of the numbers, the more you realize how much you don't know.

It would be nice to look at other countries that got hit first, see how they are going and use that as a crystal ball.

But that's not so crystal clear.

along those lines, if we are very concerned about hospitals being jammed up, we should look at the discharge rate vs the new case rate. If discharges start catching up to new cases that would be a good fact.

Although I'm sure many 'new cases' don't go to the hospital because this disease is so mild, usually. But keeping an eye on discharges is a good idea.

Yes, the overall admissions and discharge rates would be an effective metric to judge a time horizon.

Going forward, an investment in the healthcare system needs to be made.

Which political party is more likely to do something about that?

Think positive, this forces us to acknowledge we’re all connected, and we can only get through it together.

Since I’m already taking care of sick people, so far my own life hasn’t changed much.

One of our local hospitals just suspended drive-thru screenings as test kits are running low. This is a major health care provider across the Southeast, but I don't know if this is just at this location or across their network.

our lack of testing is a national shame

the one thing we need to know most is how many people have been exposed to the virus and or have the disease. That's the info we need and we are hopeless at getting it.

Here in Arkansas we’ve only tested a couple hundred people total.

Would it come as a surprise if Trump had managed to buy the German COVID-19 serum that he would have let Kushner Healthcare (otherwise known as Oscar Health) buy it in order to save the U.S. the cost of buying it? That would not surprise me one bit.
