On the Carb products point. You can also just mix sugar into water and you'll get a good enough fuel source for 99% of training. Yeah I would use gels in goal races and on long runs in the lead up to make sure they sit well with you but for the rest of the year why waste the money?
All these YTers shill different products - but are any of them worthwhile? A lot seem like a complete rip off with nice branding Socks for £15 what? and what is Nomio?
Anyone ever tried any of these products and have an opinion
I tried Nomio as a cheaper alternative to bicarb during my last marathon block. I went in thinking it was probably BS, but gave it a try anyways. It felt like it buffered the lactate for me, but it could all be in my head.
RTJ posted on his Insta yesterday that he is doing some lab testing with Nomio, taking lactate measurements.
It will be interesting to see the results although it would've been better if it was an independent test, I am never too trustworthy when the company that will benefit from seeing results is sponsoring the testing...
The running channel with a 20 min documentary about NOT breaking 2:50 lmao.
I mean what do you suggest when someone doesn't break their goal? Not publish it at all? Should RTJ and Bester not have posted their videos either given they didn't get anywhere near their goals?
I thought it was still very enjoyable to watch, and well, he was just a few seconds off.
"Pro runner" Ostrander makes 5300$ in 2025 in price money. I believe her or spencers parents are paying a lot for their livestyle....
These videos are really quite useless if these Influencers are not willing to actually tell us how much they're making from all their other sources of incomes like views and sponsorships.

Yeah I don’t really get that posters point. Andy is the only thing which makes The Running Channel even remotely watchable though.
If he’s not involved then it’s probably the most unbearable YouTube channel out there

Don't use a stupid clickbait title that's an idea. And it made me laugh that it had the structure of a WR documentary, could've made it less dramatic.

God help me, here we go:
Coros: Fine, mostly. Good battery life, little cheaper than equivalent Garmins (though not as much as they used to be)
LMNT/Any other electrolyes: The science is pretty clear than most people eating a Western diet already get too much sodium, that our bodies are good at regulating sodium levels, and that a lack of electrolytes is probably not the reason that you cramped at mile 20 of the marathon - that was neuromuscular fatigue due to insufficient training. They do have a role if you are exercising for a really long time (think 3+ hours) and drinking a *lot* of fluid, or if you ever find yourself truly getting lightheaded/dizzy. But the idea that most people need to be consuming 1000mg of extra sodium on the regular is pretty ridiculous. Largely a scam
Kaizen/Runna/etc Get a real training plan. Mostly a scam
Expensive socks: not sure what brand you are referring to specifically, but I think buying quality socks is a fine investment. I'm a big fan of balega personally, I also know people who swear by feetures. I'll be damned if you ever see my buying runfluencer-branded socks, though
Nomio: there seems to be some real science behind this, which is more than you can say about most supplements you see hawked. However, this one clearly falls into the "marginal gains" category. Maybe you can try it before a key race, but taking on the regular during training is for pros hitting huge volumes, and not needed for the amateur. Same mostly goes for bicarb
AG1: They won't even tell you how much of each ingredient is in there - probably because it would be even more obvious that its physically impossible to have an effective dose of every ingredient in the serving size. Total scam
<Insert Carbs Product here> We know that fueling longer (>90min) sessions is important for recovery, and that modern gel formulations allow you to tolerate higher carb intake. There is way too much personal preferences to make wide-sweeping statements about individual brands here, but at the end of the day they are basically all variations on flavored maltodextrin/fructose. Your baseline should be something like SIS Beta Fuel which is pretty reasonably priced, or you can search online for recipes to DIY if you want to go even cheaper. The idea that one fancy/well-marketed gel brand is truly "better" than another should be treated with suspicion.
The further way you get from gels (where paying a premium for the form factor/consistency make sense), the scammier it gets. Hobbs Kessler uses Country Time Lemonade and Rice Krispie treats after his workouts, I assure you that you don't need some fancy sports-branded product
thanks for writing that out, really insightful - good post 10/10 (not sarcasm btw)

In fairness I'm not sure TRC is really aimed at the level of runner who wastes their time on LetsRun.com. The content is fine for casual runners and they seem like decent enough people.

They're normal people who have lives outside of running. They probably have a very healthy relationship with running unlike many on this forum.
As you say their content is aimed at "normal" people who are trying to fit in running when they can. I think some people here think every YouTube video should be an in-depth review of LT testing and meaningful discussions on nutrition

I tried an AG1 sample at an expo for a laugh back when half of YouTube was banging on about it and commented on it tasting less gnarly than I expected, before spontaneously projectile vomiting swamp green across the foyer about 20 minutes later.
In their defence I ran pretty well, but my social stock may never recover.
Philly is finally running again...Yay!! Wonder when she'll next be taking a big swing at a race!
My guess is that she’ll film a “Back to the Scene of the PB” video and run Berlin in September. It makes perfect sense, and it will be interesting to see whether she can hit an elite time again. Otherwise, I’m not sure how long she can keep the Olympic dream narrative alive. I suspect she’s already scripted a video along the lines of: “I failed, and you know what, that’s okay.”
Ben Fenton with absolutely no idea whatsoever what LT1 is when posting on Strava. This is what also got him confused pre London and why he fell apart.
Scary guys like this pass on absolutely duff information to a wide amount of followers. Basically did a NSM classic workout and thinks he's cruising along at LT1 and 180bpm. Farcical.

Jesus Christ is Lord and His Name needs to be revered, not used in vain like you did. Remember, He is royalty and died for you regardless if you believe so or not. Do better next time.
