Here in Arkansas, first “presumed” case was Wednesday (no results yet!). 5 more “presumed” yesterday, still no results. Only 14 other (negative) tests.

Millions of people, 20 tests, 30% presumed positive & being treated. Wait awhile.

He must have an immeasurable complex issue. The obsession with Obama is just eerie and has gone back at least a decade. It’s as if good ethics and wisdom are his kryptonite.

Since our testing for the virus is so inadequate, any estimate of the number of cases is a severe underestimation because so many with the virus can't be tested.

But we can all be secure in the forthright leadership of Donald Trump. This is what I learned from Donald:

This is no big deal but is just a hoax by the crooked media to make Trump look bad.

This will just disappear.

The flu is worse and nothing is being shut down.

This is the fault of Europe, no the Democrats, no the media, no its Obama's fault, that's right Obama.

Fortunately we have a president with good medical instincts (he told us so).

Everyone that needs testing is being tested with perfect tests, just as perfect as "the call"

We don't need the world health organizations test kits we will develop our own.

This is not a national emergency.

We don't need the experts talking to the American people.

What I really learned is that this is is not the time to have a clown leading our country. You can't fake and lie your way out of a crisis.

With Trump everything is under control. Right? "Natural ability" and all that. Except I saw that a response to his speech was - "we're all going to die!"

The article above does a decent job of summarizing where we are right now. The question is, will we be like China and South Korea, or will we be like Italy?

It's hard to imagine that this president can muster the kind of leadership necessary to do what is really needed. So the most likely outcome is that we will be like Italy in another week or so. Our hospitals will be overrun and doctors will have to decide which patient gets to use the ventilator. In other words, the doctor decides who lives and who dies.

Sadly, our best hope is that this thing responds like seasonal flu and becomes more dormant in warm weather.

Except SK...that's a good story. They have mass testing and they find that the death rate is less than 1%. So it's likely a good deal below that even, since not everyone can be tested.

Many people with CV do not want to be tested. Can't miss work.

Unless all people who have died during this pandemic are tested there is no way to know what the percentage is.

Agree, again standard policy is to under-count with hurricanes, or even immigrant-camp deaths at the border, or missing children separated from parents.

A good proxy for the number of cases is through death numbers. We pretty much know SK did extensive testings so their numbers could be the most accurate dataset we have. Plus they started not too far before anyone else.

So they have 66 deaths for 7869 cases. That's a bit less than 1%CFR. Let's take 1% to simplify.

The US have 40 deaths, not including the diamond princess (which interestingly enough has 7 deaths for 696 confirmed cases - sounds familiar? - Don't know the details but I'm pretty sure they tested people from that ship quite aggressively too).

So it stands reason that the US should have around 4000 confirmed cases right know if testing was as aggressively done than in SK.

Of course there are some problems with this theory:

- SK reported a lot of cases being young healthy people, so CFR could be smaller on their dataset than on some others

- diamond princess is a cruise ship. Cruise ships typically catter to wealthy people rather than yound and healthy

The good news is that Trump is fixing the Social Security and Medicare budget issues. With a 15% death rate among the 80+ years olds, those programs will be in the black for decades longer. We should appreciated him taking one for the team as losing all these voters will really hurt his relections chances

given the large number of wealthy fancy people who have tested positive I think we have to assume that the virus is out in the world in giant numbers, similar to H1N1/swine flu.
