That's probably going to beat Sterling White's 15:35 at Clovis as the highest rated Cal freshman performance this year. Looks legit. Ran 4:39 last year, and has been steadily improving this XC season, but in the relative obscurity of the San Diego section.

Idk if anyone has mentioned this guy before, but Stephen Sziebert (Bellarmine). Alijah Murillo and Ryan Fitzpatrick are usually the guys who are mentioned as the fastest returners in CCS, but have not heard any mentions of Sziebert. He goes from low 15:40s - 15:50s at Woodward park last season to 15:00 (currently the fastest CCS time this season, Murillo ran 15:02 and Fitzpatrick 15:05). Then he goes to win the Clovis North Twilight invite in 9:07 for 2 miles. Also to note he ran 4:11 last season as a junior. He’s having quite the senior season

I feel like it's too early to say that, plus Mt Sac is 3 miles and not 5K like Clovis. I don't know if Mt Sac's difficulty is enough to bridge that gap to match the performances.
Still have State Meet for White or another freshman to breakout. (And maybe CIF SS finals). Generally times at State Meet are better than Clovis due to weather and peaking, although this year weather at Clovis invitational was perfect, so less improvement from weather to be expected.

When I was a freshman in 1975, XC was 2 miles. All the big meets, including CIF, were 2 miles. And there was no CA State XC Championships. Distance was changed to 3 miles in the fall of 1977.

Probably the best estimate available is the speed rating, which is within the margin of error-
Hedstrom 175.83. and White 175.30.I wasn't saying it would be the highest rating this year, just the highest so far. It probably will be beat at sectionals or state, but probably by one of those two. I only know of Burton of Crescenta Valley that has also reached 170. It is possible someone could have a huge breakout and best those times, but I think that's very unlikely. Would love to be wrong though.

Did that Morales kid from JSerra run absolutely ridiculous time on the the track as a frosh & was considered the next big thing? Not to rag on a high school kid but what happened? Still solid through.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation ig. Morales is a middle distance runner and specializes in the 800, meaning that he isn’t necessarily great in longer distances. He may have been in the next big thing in TRACK but not xc. Pretty common thing with most middle distance runners
