Emma is media smart and will come out of this looking better than all of them, I bet. She is connected to big stars like FastWomen and Ali on the Run in the running world. But she's as guilty as Ben for enabling this..(I may be wrong and will walk it back if facts show otherwise; to be fair to her).
Eh, I don’t know that I agree. Emma is media smart in the sense that she’s learned to make a living doing social media brand deals in the running/exercise/lifestyle space, but she doesn’t strike me as someone who is particularly skilled at responding to tough situations or fractured audience opinions. She hasn’t responded to any of the New Gen stuff so far, and from what I’ve seen of her (and I started watching her vlogs back at UO because I wanted to see the team), I’m not sure she’d have a well-thought out response to questions like, “what sort of mentorship or guidance were you giving the campers when they wanted to do a bullying photoshoot, or in the immediate aftermath when some audience members expressed concern about it?” Remember late May/early June 2020 when she continued to obliviously post her typical influencer content during the height of the George Floyd protests? I’m not even trying to sound mean or dig into her; I just don’t think she’s displayed the PR savvy or nuance of thought in the past to “come out of” this incident better than any of the other adults involved.
She’s “connected” to people like Wade and Feller in the sense that Wade will mention Emma’s podcasts in the newsletter (which she does pretty much anytime a pod interviews a notable female distance runner), and that she and Feller have interviewed each other, but I don’t sense any particularly unbreakable mentorship relationship there. I don’t think Emma would receive “protection” or special excuses from other female running media personalities just for being a woman. I do think, though, that Wade and Feller are mature people who would look at someone like Emma and say, “yeah, she could/should have done better, but I’m not going to excommunicate her purely for her connection to New Gen. Better to be an older sounding board who can hopefully help the younger people in this industry make more thoughtful choices.” Like, it’s clear that Wade and Feller are with Emma Gee on this one, but I don’t get the sense that they’d either cut off or blindly protect Emma A for her involvement in this stuff.
In any case, I don’t expect we’ll hear anything from New Gen affiliates about this ordeal in the short or medium term. I feel like the “tell” about ramifications they’ve received will be whether they get shoe brands to sponsor things like high school xc events, events at NCAA or USATF nationals, a camp next summer, etc. Perhaps Ben or Matt will talk more about this summer’s drama in a podcast interview in two or three years, if they maintain relevance in the sport that long.
Nikki Hiltz should hold Emma Abrahamson accountable

Emma should address everything on her next podcast but the last episode is over a month old, who knows when the next one (or if it will ever) come out..

starting to get the feeling that the NewGen people talked to a lawyer that maybe told them just to shut up and not say anything, so as not to give critics anything further to discuss, hoping it will all blow over.
delete, go on a fab vacay (where's this income coming from, again? that podcast and youtube channel are bringing in hundreds of dollars every fiscal quarter lol), and then just act like nothing happened seems to be the play at the current time.
in their defense, it is a minimalist, chic, and sexy approach to these troubling accusations - very now and fashion forward. you do you, NewGen
Matt Wisner returned to Instagram after his 2 week PTO without any explanation of New Gen Camp….
So his valiant return to posting includes:
1. A screen grab of Chip Fontaine and Lux Lisbon from The Virgin Suicides. Although both high schoolers in the film, the main plot involves Chip trying to seduce this girl and break her and her sisters away from their repressive and protective parents. Spoiler Alert: They all kill themselves.
2. A photo of Keanu Reeves and Sofia Coppola, who dated in 1992 when Coppola was I think 20 and he was 31 or so. (Coppola directed Virgin Suicides).
3. A (not so) obscure Joan Didion that seems to be alluding to the fact that he's not going to give a response or address this situation as a way of taking back power and control.

It’s like he’s trying to remind people that he’s not just creepy, he’s also pretentious

Didn't you know? Wisner is just so quirky and deep. You wouldn't understand.
Truly truly wish Ben matt and everyone involved in new gen loses all their “fans” and maintains zero relevancy in this sport. Garbage “adults”. Disgusted with what’s come to light and just laughable that they won’t own up to anything and hope to be quiet until this just goes away. I wish them all the worst if they put out new content on YouTube or try to resume their activities as if none of this never happened. Ben is scum

If you were caught sending inappropriate, sexuality oriented messages to a minor (something people wind up in handcuffs for less) would you say anything publicly?!
Matt wisner should crawl back under his rock and never come out

Is Matt Wisner on vacation, in Europe, funded by new gen fans and he doesn’t think he owes an explanation?!?
His vacation is funded by daddy's money, not the fans. Which is another thing that makes running media (and the media in general) so insufferable and out-of-touch. The fact that it's become a career that's so unlucrative that only those who come from money can do it.
