If this thing continues to blow up and candidates can’t campaign suspending the election to 2021 wouldn’t be the worst idea. Now if he cancels it totally there is no way the American people accept that.

Not going to happen. There will be a presidential election in Nov. Trump can burn the whole country down on his way out, but he's not going to be able to sit in the WH a single day longer than allowed. To give you an idea, midterm elections were held right in the middle of WWI during the Spanish Flu outbreak. Voter turnout was pretty bad, but no one questioned the legitimacy of the results. Sure, it will be messy, but mailed ballots should be emphasized and across the country voting booths could add some controls to help prevent spread (e.g. hand sanitizer, enforce a clear space between people in lines). Hell, they could even hold voting over the course of 1 week if to minimize the crowd size. The only way he could get it postponed would be if like 1/3 of the population died from this. Cancelling is out of the question.

Exhibit A is the Senate, who suddenly never say anything because they’re re-thinking their misplaced loyalty. Mass murder of virus sufferers tends to do that.
Trump’s only way to keep them in line was his popularity, now rapidly dwindling.

I understand your confidence that this will not come to pass. I hope you are right—but 1918 is not 2020. The general level of trust in and respect for the government was significantly higher among the voting classes in that time, and the jingoism generated by the Great War helped. The US was enjoying great confidence abroad because we were saving the Entente powers during the German spring offensive. The current situation is precarious by comparison. Right and left have lost faith in the government. We feud with our old allies. The stock market is crashing. Wilson was not a hugely popular figure, but he was not remotely the divisive figure as Herr Drumpf. I wouldn’t put anything past that man, and I am no longer able to be surprised by the diminished expectations of many Americans. They no not how bad a situation they are in, many of them.

I wouldn't put anything past that man either, and I agree with you on diminished expectations of many Americans. Trump is a lawless President, so it is completely conceivable he will do anything he can legally or otherwise to stay in office longer than he should be allowed.
