Time to ask yourself the following question; what will you do when Trump suspends the 2020 general election? If the economy enters recession and the epidemic continues to worsen, Trump could easily try to make the case that an election will be too “destabilizing during a time of crisis”. So if this comes to pass, what will you do?
If this thing continues to blow up and candidates can’t campaign suspending the election to 2021 wouldn’t be the worst idea. Now if he cancels it totally there is no way the American people accept that.
Not going to happen. There will be a presidential election in Nov. Trump can burn the whole country down on his way out, but he's not going to be able to sit in the WH a single day longer than allowed. To give you an idea, midterm elections were held right in the middle of WWI during the Spanish Flu outbreak. Voter turnout was pretty bad, but no one questioned the legitimacy of the results. Sure, it will be messy, but mailed ballots should be emphasized and across the country voting booths could add some controls to help prevent spread (e.g. hand sanitizer, enforce a clear space between people in lines). Hell, they could even hold voting over the course of 1 week if to minimize the crowd size. The only way he could get it postponed would be if like 1/3 of the population died from this. Cancelling is out of the question.
