Trump is like a talented WR who talks smack and gets stupid penalties for his team. When you are still able to win despite the sideshow it’s all good...his first 3 years, but when the team starts losing, it’s really bad. Trump is like the President version of Terrell Owens.

Why did he ban travel from EU except not from UK?
The UK has more cases than most of the EU countries, don't they?
Honestly? Because he feels more simpatico with Boris than he does with most other heads of state.
And because Brits speak English. DJT's base doesn't care for folks who speak other stuff.
The EU are big critics of trump & putin, and transatlantic routes are the most lucrative in the world.
That Terrell Owens comparison is pretty good.
Good morning! How are all you LRC stable geniuses doing this fine AM?

Had Trump not restricted travel months ago, we'd have thousands more cases.
Okay, credit where it's due: I agree with RFH on this one.
The move in January to keep out most foreign visitors (who had visited China recently) made good sense--bought us some time. Unfortunately that time was not used terribly wisely, but still.
We don't know if the China ban helped or not. We have not been testing like other nations. So we don't know how bad the problem is here.

Thanks. I thought that’s where you pulled it. Do you think your % data is reliable or valid at this point?
I think that it is the best information that I have available to me. Are there inaccuracies in the data?
Of course. One obvious one is the lack of testing in the US. No cases in N Korea? India? Africa? . . .
Certainly there are plenty of holes. However, given that the holes are not changing terribly much and that it includes data from 120 odd countries around the world my guess is that the trends (% growth, etc.) are not completely off.
Further, my data set covers only four days. So, we will see how they trend over time. As
i have said, I am not making predictions here. I am only providing the numbers that seem most relevant and reliable regarding what is happening across the globe.
I believe that such information is much better for people to consider than anecdotal data about a few select countries on a few select days. What you do with what I provide is then up to you. I have merely tried to give some examples of questions folks might ask that these % growth rates may shed some light on.
That’s good. However, you should consider that you are reporting data that may be no better than those saying “well, Italy is down today, that’s a good sign.” In addition, a day to day trend is likely a poor method to analyze the data set. There will likely be significant swings in daily reporting for various reasons.
Just because your “holes” over a 3 day period do not change terribly much means nothing. How do you know they shouldn’t change much?
Just be careful that you’re not falling into the same trap you say others are falling into.
Yes thanks vladimir

Good analogy. He’s stepping up the smack talking the more he loses bigly.
According to Axios:
Congress' in-house doctor told Capitol Hill staffers at a close-door meeting this week that he expects 70-150 million people in the U.S. — roughly a third of the country — to contract the coronavirus, two sources briefed on the meeting tell Axios.
Wasn’t there a time in the not to distant past that Donald Trump said he wanted more people to come here from Europe and not those “shithole” countries?
Guardian’s take: a sniffing, unhealthy, orange trump had difficulty reading the teleprompter. He called it a foreign virus & made several mistakes that had to he immediately retracted on twitter.
“He’s gonna get us all killed.”

But Elvis was at least a genius. The other guy is just a witless fat addict.
London stocks reach 8-year low.
Trading suspended in Wall St futures at -5%.
April starts the next fiscal quarter.
There's a pretty good chance that GDP will be negative that quarter do to the scale back in travel and events.
Then what happens July to Sep?
There could be businesses scaling back as a reaction to that.
Which means in October there could be a report of two consecutive quarters of negative GDP - an official recession.
I am not rooting for that.
That would mean job losses. It already sucks to be unsure about planning a vacation.
But it looks like a reasonable chance that a recession could be announced right before the election.
And that would not be Trump's fault. But a positive economy is the only thing that gives Trump any chance of winning.
Only dumping trump as mentally incompetent, and instituting socialism/teamwork/safety net, can deal with this virus.
Talking to you, Moscow Mitch. You’re going to have to eat all your words.
