Oh, say it ain't so--not FH!
I figure it was just a typo, but still: The word is "pore."
Thanks for the kind correction.

Big drop in new cases, which is what you'd expect when you shut down the country.
yesterday 1800 new cases
today 1000 new cases.
but could be because they ran out of test kits, for all I know.
number of deaths in italy terrible: 196 vs I think 168 yesterday.
massive outlier. so far.
You spoke too soon. Italy is now at 2,313 new cases. This is a record high and the day is not over yet.
Yes, please learn to ignore agip on this topic His ignorance or willful misrepresentation of what is going on is way beyond disappointing.

Spanish flu had an estimated 1% mortality rate and killed around 50 million world wide. Covid-19 has a similar mortality rate. Whether it kills as many as Spanish flu will depend largely on how successful countries are at containing it and limiting its spread, and the quality of general healthcare, which is better than it was in 1918.
Spanish flu killed young healthy people. Particularly young, healthy men.
this thing absolutely does not. Or has not, anyway. It doesn't even seem to have any affect on children.
Remember we're three months into this thing and we're counting deaths per country on one hand.
Except in Italy and Iran, which is a big 'except' yes.
But I suspect the quarrantines and hand washing will work there like it works everywhere else.
One thing on testing...do not trust any mortality statistics at all. We have no idea how widespread this thing is. We won't until afterwards when we test for antibodies. Saying the mortality rate is similar to Spanish Flu is just not a scientific fact. It should not be repeated.
You keep making assertions about something you have no expertise in. You are not an epidemiologist. You sound like Trump with his "hunches". If you aren't quoting recognised health experts, your opinions about the disease mean nothing.
The figures for COVID-19 mortality rate came from epidemiologists, including the WHO. Spanish flu went on for years, this outbreak has only just begun. The WHO has now described it officially as a pandemic. Is that widespread enough for you?

You can just eliminate the "on this topic."
Huh. Learn something new everyday. I always assumed (incorrectly) that it was pour as well. I am almost ashamed to say that this cesspool of inhumanity has learnt me sumthin'.

I think much of the issue here is that people aren't making enough of a distinction between the number of infections and the number of deaths.
The number of infections is alarming and scary.
The number of deaths is neither alarming nor scary.
But people conflate the two and it's causing a lot of panic.
Correct!
I guess you can take that view until it's someone you know.
If the number of infections is "scary", then that means the number who will die will also be high. Current estimates are that 60% of the world's population will contract the virus. With an estimated 1% mortality rate - 10 times the flu - that's millions of people around the world who will die as a result of the disease.
What your friend P is trying to tell you is that no conclusions can be drawn yet because sample size of data at this point is either insufficient or inaccurate.
Basically, it's still... who the h3ll knows.
btw, as soon as that is no longer the case all of you can feel free to get back in the market.
As Herbert Hoover Bush Jr proved, the wrong guy in charge can make the market fall further than any deep-pocketed short-seller would dream of.

Look, Italy has a very aging population. 30% of the population is over 60. Liguria, in the northwest, apparently has the highest ratio of elderly to youth in the world. Tons of younger Italians have moved to other Euro countries because of jobs, less regulation, etc.
So considering Italy's population demographics, is it an outlier when we know the virus is much harder on those over aged 60? Do we know how many dead in Italy are over 60 vs under?
agip just means that the elderly will have to die so he can live/be happy/get rich.

They have been under testing, death rate too high

Glad he's working hard to make sure he doesn't get elected. There will be viral videos left and right of different breakouts and we will hear from local governments how awful the spread really is.. he can't hide that
What added value to the cause of beating trump does Bernie add by continuing his campaign?

My cousin’s wife is on a CDC task force and she told me last night that are making them sign NDAs. Trump is more concerned how this is going to affect his chances in November rather than protecting the people of the country.

agip backed a loosing position here and stubbornly refuses to admit it.
