BTW, natural (methane) gas is not much better for the planet than coal. As a greenhouse gas, methane is 20 to 100 times more potent than CO2. So much methane is leaked during extraction and transport that it almost makes up for the fact that natural gas burns cleaner.

The fact that the balance of Democrats are moving toward Biden suggests two things to me: 1) the establishment would prefer that Donald stay in office, and 2) voters don't know any better. Biden will lose.

low price of oil hasn't stopped green initiatives. SUVs and Trucks are as fuel efficient now as they've ever been and ICE tech is getting pretty impressive. Cultural shift is towards EVs (and just cleaner sources of energy in all industries really), looks pretty inevitable and most Millennials place it high on their consumer awareness chart. Low oil prices will afford a nice easy transition period towards that and give car companies the time they need to do a proper infrastructural investment.

Of course if you're Fat Hurts and believe literally that trillions of lives are at stake and the Earth will split in half by next year then I guess it's not enough.

I wish I understood how the data is collected. Italy hasn't updated all day. The US stats are the same since early this morning, so apparently that just means no new stats have been reported.

I believe the science. And the science tells us it's not enough. 1.5 degrees of warming is considered dangerous. We are at 1 degree now. Here is what we have to do to stay below 1.5 degrees:

What this shows is that if we wait 8 more years then we will need to go cold turkey on fossil fuels to stay below 1.5 degrees. What it also shows is that if we had started in the 1990's then all of this would have been a lot more achievable.

Yes, one problem in modeling presidential elections is that there is only one of them every four years and the background conditions change. It is not a controlled experiment.

Which kind of leaves you with two choices...you can go with the best guesses of what we think we know...which, as you correctly point out, contains a lot of statements like "the predictive power is not known"

Or you can trust intuition. You are making a guess that turnout will be up in the general because it was up in the primary. It is intuitive that it should work that way, but the evidence is very ambiguous.

Not disputing your data, but it's spelled "minuscule."

Here's the first thing to do - ignore the data from the site that agip uses until evening time (I usually look around 7 pm Eastern). Posting numbers for the morning, before the numbers are really in in any meaningful sense of the word, represents either profound ignorance or is willfully misleading. The fact that agip has been doing this daily is positively Sally-esque. Shameful.

As I stated, I will provide an update when the day's numbers are largely in. It will be meaningful and unbiased. Of course, if you prefer the "But Maine is cold today" analysis, you can always get that from agip.

That is ridiculous.

The only reason to keep that information classified is to avoid political embarrassment.

I do not believe this would hold up to challenge, but FOIA requests and lawsuits are not an effective way to get time-sensitive information.

You spoke too soon. Italy is now at 2,313 new cases. This is a record high and the day is not over yet.
