P: Excellent question. The notion that fatality rates will definitely head down has been repeated ad nauseam for exactly the reason you specify. And it is somewhat likely to be the case with COVID-19. However, what folks don't seem to understand is that there is a very significant factor driving fatality rates upward as well. And the impact of this other factor is especially pronounced during the earlier stages of a pandemic.
Note that fatalities lag cases in time. For a trivial example, imagine a disease which will ultimately have a 50% fataility rate. The first two cases of this disease are diagnosed on Jan 1. Both patients remain alive on Jan 10. What is the fatality rate on Jan 10? It is 0% (0 deaths/2 cases). Then one of the patients dies on Jan 15. What is the fatality rate on Jan 15? It is 50% (1 death/2 cases). As long as the number of cases is expanding rapidly, and there is the inevitable lag between diagnosis and death, then the reported fatality rate will tend to be an underestimate of the disease's true lethality. Further, this under-representation of deaths will tend to fade over time, driving the fatality rate of the disease to increase (without any real change in the lethality of the disease itself).

Fatality Rate = # deaths/# cases/Unit of time
Mortality Rate = # death/population/Unit of time
In the US today the fatality rate of COVID-19 is roughly 3%/2 months (30 deaths/974 cases) (time interval not particularly relevant). This number is being mistakenly pushed as the mortality rate almost everywhere.
In the US today the mortality rate of COVID-19 is roughly 0.00000009%/2 months (30 deaths/330 million individuals) (time interval still not particularly relevant). This number is not being reported anywhere (for obvious reasons) but it is, in fact, the true mortality rate of COVID-19 in the US at this time.
Happy to answer rational questions, including why the numbers I present are what you really want to know as well as what they are telling us.

In Numbers 5:11-31, "G-d" provides an (alleged) abortion *formula* and mandates its use in certain situations.
