New cases do not just go down "by magic". This thing can only be slowed by truly draconian measures - basically shutting down the economy. Or, much better, by a vaccine. But things slowing down without shutting down schools and places of work and everybody basically just staying home is simply not going to happen. Why would it?
So, if you are hoping, (as I am), that the death toll from this does NOT reach the millions you basically have three possibilities:
1) Shut down the economy (which would result in financial and societal costs that are difficult to imagine today)
2) Get a working vaccine out quickly (best option)
3) Hope that warmer weather slows down the virus substantially.
Thinking that "Oh, this looks like a bell curve" (on incredibly unreliable data) is profoundly naive.
