The figure for the flu was taken over a whole year. The significance of that seems to have eluded you. The coronavirus, on the other hand, has just started its unpleasant work. But by all means take the advice of your niece, who is undoubtedly smarter than you and, by all accounts, smarter than the public health authorities who say the mortality rate for coronavirus will be much much higher than for the flu.
