I got wind that UCLA is planning to cut the men's cross country team for this fall. Apparently, the women's cross country team is safe for now, but honestly, this news doesn't shock me.

Funding needs to come in consideration. What is the investment in the throws at PSU and what are the projected points? If the ROI isn’t there at all, then that’s why he was let go.
No HC out there will turn down a potential scorer recruit. Most likely he didnt have much scholarships because he did not recruit well and potentially focused more on his one pro thrower. Big10 is no joke and standards are very high. I am pretty sure Gondak knows what he's doing.
Head coaches will 100% turn down scorers to fit whatever narrative they see fit to run their program. So many insecure head coaches will not let you out shine them.

Didn’t someone just prove that teams that win nationals don’t do it with distance but with field events? Look at Georgia that scored tons of points in the throws

If you want to win outdoor you invest in sprints and jumps
Indoor you can possibly win with sprints and distance but the outdoor combo also helps

You are referring to Georgia women? How about Georgia men? They got beat by plenty of distance oriented teams. Also, poster said they can do three sports (meaning XC as well). Throwers cannot, and teams that invest heavy on field events are usually very below average in XC. Like they said, it comes down to preference.

Distance didn’t land any of the top three teams guys or girls….
Even as a throws guy, I realize how valuable Distance events are, and if I was head coach, would definitely invest in them. You get 3 seasons out of them. What’s sad though, is seeing throws programs gutted, that scored on conference and national levels, because a coach wants to go all in on Distance or Sprints. Just like Distance, throws are getting very hard to score, as many coaches on the G4 level just bring in ready made European throwers, then again this has been going on for decades in the throws, just more so now.

Have it on very good authority that most of the PSU throwers are walk-on or small scholarships...
