Mantz ran slower than Steve Jones did 40 years ago on this course. In his prime he is just one minute faster than Rupp in his old age. Going to bet 100 Kenyans and 50 Ethiopians could beat Mantz. Not a good look for the USA in the marathon.
Mantz runs a PR and meets his goal for the day. Congrats to all the Americans. Best American showing in a single marathon event in a long time. Maybe ever.

I think you guys could do a pretty decent post mortem of the NBC stream, separate from the race summary. I think a breakdown of why these marathon streams are not set up well might be a good thing in the small chance NBC people see the article. The problem is, right now, the criticisms of NBC broadcasts are just sporadic forum posts and tweets. Effectively, write a piece on all the areas these NBC streams are failing and offer solutions (e.g., PIP of the race should be on at all times, a clock should be on the screen at all times). Maybe a collaboration with other outlets like Citius. It may end up doing nothing, but if presented as an article with good intentions / constructive feedback to improve the overall spectating experience maybe it could land in an NBC exec's inbox down the line.
Kipchoge might be mad at himself for not pushing the 2nd half with some of his marathons. Comparing the closing runs of Kipchoge and Kiptum, Kipchoge looks like he still has a lot to give and when he finishes, it feels like he can still run another 10k. Looking at Kiptum at the end, he actually pushes himself!
Kipchoge is doing just fine rolling around in his appearance-fee millions from races/Nike
Then there is that theory is he is over 40 and not actually 38, if so he might never 2:00
The men are pretty much done after people get "bored" with 2:00 ha
I wonder how long until there is a multiple men sprint finish at the end of a 2:00
But the women still have some amazing unknowns ahead.
Who is going to be the first American woman to do 2:15 ?
"Who is going to be the first American woman to do 2:15". LOL!!! I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Sifan Hassan, running just her second marathon ever, ran the second fastest time by a woman in history and also set the Chicago course record by running 2:13...
Kenya's Kelvin Kiptum broke the men’s marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon, running an astounding 2:00:35 as the 23-year old inched closer to breaki...
I’ve always thought it very strange Bates doesn’t take in any water when racing marathons, only gels every 5K. The Ucan gels are more liquid than most other gels, but I don’t see how that’s a substantial fluid replacement. It’s obviously worked for her but seems odd. I’m curious what happened to her today.
Happy Sisson was top American. Sure it wasn’t the day anyone thought she would have, running 2:22, but this surely cements her as a near lock for the Olympic team. She has now shown she is consistent in the marathon and we can forget about that DNF in 2020.
I didnt say kiptum. I will say that kenyans in general do not give good interviews. Kipchoge? terrible. Either he is incredibly cagey or he is uncomfortable expressing himself.
Yeah, well, you'd give disastrous interviews in Swahili.
I have trouble seeing Rupp trying to qualify for the Olympics.
What will be Rupp's post-running career?
Will he retire to a honest trade like Webb? Be a youtube star like Symmonds? A BBC commentator like Radcliffe and Cram?
Would love to see him as a commentator. Last year he was part of the NXN broadcast and was fantastic. Did his homework, did not make the broadcast about himself or his running, added great insight and sounded very comfortable.
Team Boss athletes seem to always talk how great their fitness is, and then underperform. Bates said she was very fit. This reminds me of Coburn before USA’s and World’s.
