What this means is back to back 1 term presidents as we elect radical presidents who fall outside of the mainstream.

538 showed approval rates of every president since Truman, and Trump's disapproval rating at this point was worse than all of them. He was closest to George HW. We haven't had a president who has generated this much hate and discord. He seems to revel and feed off hate and cruelty. He is clear about only being president for his base.
Under Trump's leadership, the wealthy got too greedy and hence we get an uprising from the lower economic class with the Bernie socialist rebellion. Sure Trump's populism will keep a group of low economic people voting against their economic interests but not enough to stop the Bernie rebellion.
It has become a class battle of the extremes. Selfishness of the business rich, lead by Trump, have hurt the appeal of the moderate Democrat. The anti trump antirich uprising demands more and Bernie fills that niche. Free giveaways paid for by the rich is his platform and it's very appealing.
The voice of reason coming from the moderate Democrats will have a battle in this climate of discord to assert itself. But don't count them out yet.
