Most people don't stop to think that far, they only absorb the information directly exposed to them. The economy has dramatically improved and lending has started to relax a bit in ways that people notice the most (home improvement and new cars). Gas prices are low as well.

I somewhat prefer the 538 methodology.

But in any case I note that RCP shows the same trends over the last couple/few days that 538 displayed: DJT approval down and disapproval up.

I think there is a segment that will hold their nose and vote for Trump just because they feel the economy is good. Not a huge segment, but perhaps enough to swing some states. They don’t know or understand what impacts the economy, but know it hasn’t worsened for them under Trump.

As agip said, Trump will get a boost just by being the incumbent during economic stable times.

I think this segment shrinks significantly if a moderate wins the Dem nomination.

Sanders will attract new voters. My guess is he will gain more than enough to cover the moderates he might lose.

The question is whether the lives of working class voters in the Rust Belt have improved enough to vote for Trump a second time. Wages are still stagnant. Our infastructure is crumbling. Jobs are still being outsourced (remember the Carrier deal Trump made? Ha!). Oh, and healthcare still sucks. My guess is that not much has changed for those voters. Look at what happend during the midterms in those states...I don't care how good you say the economy is doing, it is not the best measurement of how middle/lower class working Americans are doing. Half the country doesn't even own stock.

Come on, agip. Many of us are all for immigrants. LEGAL immigrants. Why would you say we are against immigrants when that is not true? We want legal immigrants coming here. Is it wrong to want a secure border? What other country has 20 million illegals within its border?

Funny how you say most Americans are against open borders but I believe everyone of the Democratic contenders are for open borders. Not sure about Bloomberg but everyone else is, I think. You okay with open borders? They ALL are also giving health insurance to illegals. Are YOU okay with doing that?

No, I think the attacks on the Dem. nominee will be incredibly similar regardless of who the nominee is.

Trump and Republican commentators don't need any factual basis to attack somebody. I think this is really, really clear from the past 3 years.
