Ben Parkes running 2:47? What are you smoking? Sub-3 is already at the very top end of his current fitness. I’m guessing he’ll fade in the final stretch and end up with something like a 3:10. And I like the guy, but he’s definitely not in peak shape right now.
May be worth checking his real-time fitness -- he's just passed half in sub 1.25; I reckon he'll probably get sub 2.50.
Cole looking likely to overtake Bester in the latter stages now. Seems like he ran this sensibly with even splits and is on track for 2:28/2:28. Still way off his PB but a good reflection of his current fitness.
Great performances from the British elite trio, Cairess, Yee and Sesemann are in 15th, 16th and 17th place through 35k. They were way backaround 40th before the half.
Also possibly running running sessions/workouts too hard! With 5 races in 5 weeks he said himself he’s able to push himself much harder in these but I’d ask what the purpose is? To get a good training effect or to push yourself to the limit? They aren’t at full race effort but at the end of a 280k week they may as well be. I think the writing was on the wall when he did that track session in the afternoon after blowing up in a race that same morning!
