Definitely. JR seems like someone who peaks during post season. Look at it this way, JR got beat by Miles Cook, Griffin Kushen, Maximo Zavaleta, and Aydon at Clovis but got it done the day of the state meet. I’m not saying he’ll win, but I don’t he won’t qualify- that would be insane.
Do you guys think JR Lesher will qualify for state?
His PR from Arcadia was right at the 9:03 standard, in that very strange race. The pace at prelims was obviously very relaxed, but someone (Noonan!) better push the pace at Masters.
It should be noted that it was so hot during Rylee Blade's 3200 that Poman's cameras overheated and so he won't be able to post Blade's 3200 race on YouTube.
It was 90 in the shade and around 100 in the sun during her race.
I had fans on 7 of 8 cameras. Out of those seven three fan assisted cameras overheated because they did not have a white cloth over them. The camera without fan has never overheated in 5 years of filming until Saturday when it was 96F at 3PM. These consumer level cameras (well high end ones) that were not designed for recording at the highest quality for 6-10 hours straight.
Noonan is not the type of guy to pace- he’s a very tactical runner. If anything, I expect Turk to push the pace and Noonan to kick in the last 800
Very true. Can't argue that at all, but after Arcadia, Noonan just might change that strategy a little to win another state title... but, if it ain't broke...
Do you guys think JR Lesher will qualify for state?
The Div 2/3 3200m race is going to be a bloodbath. Div 3 has a lot of sleepers that didn't get to show off due to the heat. There are probably more people capable of 9:10 combined than there are spots available. I think he easily makes Masters meet, but with only 6 spots from that meet going to State, it's a bit of a coinflip.

Twice as many athletes make it to Masters in many events this year. He'll get in.

I agree. Noonan is like a shark waiting for the right moment to lay down his devastating kick. The tricky thing is that he doesn't look like he's kicking because it's the same foot rate except that his stride lengthen out and by the time you realized he's kicking, you're too late.
I'm not in the south but don't you have at-large standards to take care of this problem?
Division races to Masters Meet -- Going from this Saturday's division races to the following week's Southern Section ("SS") Master meet each of the 4 division winners plus the next 14 fastest runners across the 4 divisions advance to the masters meet for a total of 18 entries per event. At the SS Masters meet there are 2 races for all events up to 400 meters. At the SS Masters meet, for the 800m and longer races all 18 entries race in a single race. At this weekend's division races all races are run separately by division except for the 3200 where D1 and D4 run a combined race with distinct D1 and D4 winners. Same for a combined 3200 with D2 and D3. My understanding is that the 18 entries to the SS Masters meet is a new thing for 2025 -- I think it was previously 9?
Southern Section Masters Meet to California CIF State Meet -- Going from the SS Masters meet to the state meet, the top 6 finishers at the Masters meet advance to the State meet regardless as to finishing time. Should any runner outside the top 6 obtain the CIF statewide qualifying standard at the Masters Meet they too advance to the State Meet. I've listed the statewide standards below.

Pretty sure that noonan will make the race fast enough last mile. I expect Zion, Omar, Taye and Auge From d3 to make that race sub 9 alongside Noonan and Liam (if he’s fit enough due to injury). We’ll see who decides to join in on that ride and most importantly, hang.
Looks like Westin Brown plans to continue to run at UCLA along with Aydon Stefanopolous and Arrin Sagiraju
I’m kind of impressed at how smart these guys are while still being stellar athletes. Good for them for getting into UCLA! They deserve it!
Sadly, Ferris doesn't have the support of his Track director or Athletic director to give any money to them, so his best recruiting tool is to get kids in to the "#1 public university in America" based on athletics, when they wouldn't have qualified academically. Not a criticism of either, just facts. Congrats to them for getting in. I truly hope that athletic department starts supporting the UCLA distance program again, with much more funding and more than the 1 coach.

Not sure "Aydon" is quite worthy of being a 1st name only guy... unless you're him. ;-)
