Few days later SLCC gutted the whole running program. T&F completely dissolved, coaches all quit, XC traveling teams removed and roster spots/scholarships drastically cut, remaining athletes chaotically trying to relocate. So sad to see a program Wood meticulously and expertly crafted into a national championship team (both men’s and women’s - in the span of two years) completely destroyed in a matter of days, all because of the public education-hating far-right state legislature.

Here is the news article about it. When you're traveling over 20 kids every weekend to California, Oregon, Washington for regular season meets, that adds up. However you look at all cross country only schools at any division they are not very good. Any real good distance runner won't go to a school for cross country only .

1. $100k+ salary in CA vs $100k+ in TX 2. Cal attracts more left leaning athletes whereas Austin TX you can grab kids from both sides of the social spectrum 3. TX has funny money. Texas also just recently won a national championship. 4. There will always be new athletes to coach. As great as a thrower Alekna is, WR doesn’t hold much weight when he is 0-3 on NCAA titles.

That & the track team at Cal has been on the chopping block for some time now…
Texas will shift the throws to proven international talent, will score at the nationals. Texas is going to bumping collective $$$ like crazy. This 2025 year was embarrassing to the Texas faithful.
Yeah - the PSU move seems odd. We are going in a different direction (away from a proven winner and developer of talent) to ???? - someone cheaper and less experienced?? 🤔🤔
