Some thoughts: building a large tent is easier said then done at a time when there is so much polarization and populism is peaking. The interests of a large group should not be neglected. This might have cost us the WH in 2016 as many thought Bernie would have had a solid chance against Trump. I prefer to wait to see how much higher Bernie can rise and then instead of shooting him down I would try to bridge the movement to something more moderate. I think more than anything most Bernie supporters want someone serious about change, it’s not about any specific radical change. Hope is a powerful tool. Pete is aware of this, note his congratulatory words for Bernie after Iowa. Biden should not get worked up about Bernie doing well. At the end of the day the tent can always be stretched but people need to feel heard. Make most feel like their person got a good shot and they won’t be resentful.
