Cole Gibbens - broken? amnother example of what happends when you sell youre sole for a couple of quid and get roped into doing marathons which you know you shouldnt be doing. think this is the beginning of the end
Yeah i dunno if this is the fairest criticism. First of all, Cole is really young (I think like 24?) so if anything, these are valuable learning experiences for him. After an outstanding debut in London he's spent the last 6 months getting humbled for his decision making.
It's kinda important to have these moments in marathon training. Now he has an opportunity to shake himself off, regroup, and come back stronger with the experience under his belt.
The marathon is, of course, an event of experience. He has a lot of years ahead of him if he's able to put running first and Youtube second. Though he's young and still has maturity to gain, he doesn't have Floberg brain, so I'm pretty optimistic he'll figure it out.
Have anyone not received a Coros Pace 4 this past week?
Seems like Garmin doesn't give a sh*t about runfluencers, everyone seems to have a Coros sponsorship. Only time I can recall a Garmin collab was with SweatElite a while ago. Come to think of it, maybe that's what scared them off!

My view on Coros is that the only people who seem to wear them have been sent the watch for free! However the "main" influencers such as The Run Testers, DC Rainmaker, Des Fit etc who get sent Garmin and Coros all, to a man, chose Garmin as their everyday watch. That in itself is telling.

I have the Coros Pace Pro having previously had the Pace 2. Very happy with my Coros.
Matt Haslam also has a non-sponsored one. Some other channels too eg Ayup and Run (fellow masters runner Neil Gamble). Everyone seems to genuinely like their bought Coros.
As a company though they don't seem to have much time for masters runners, particularly female ones.

What is it you'd like them to do?
Do masters runners (and female masters runners in particular) need something different from their watch?
I think the comment was more aimed at the marketing of some of these companies.
There is a huge market for masters runners, many have spare cash and time to invest in running but the shoe, watch, training and race event companies seem to spend their budget on younger influencers.
The "grey pound" is a big share of the market these people should be looking to take

I love that. They don't give a sh** and still have the best product. Also respect to Garmin for flexing nuts on Strava, too.
He’s becoming increasingly defensive. Truett Hanes’ timeline over the past 14 months or so (all in jeans) is quite remarkable. Here are some notable events: - September 2024: Big Cottonwood 2:55 - February 2025: Austin 2:42 - April 2025: Eugene 2:37, Boston under 2:35, and some random Oregon race 2:34 - August 2025: Leadville 100 in 22:34 (22nd overall) - November 2025: New York City (possibly a test run?) In just a year, he dropped an astonishing 35 minutes while wearing jeans and doing 10k pull-ups on the side. I’ve never seen anything like it from a normal mortal. I believe peptides (bPC/TB500 + CJC/IPAM) combined with a baby dose of TRT, along with a little TIRA/SEMA, would enable him to recover from 120-mile weeks effortlessly. He could heal every minor tendon tweak overnight. He could stay shredded and never listen to what Grok says. That combination can transform a 28-year-old into a freak. Just be honest with us, Truett. No one is mad. God is watching, man. The truth will set you free.
I haven't been following this guy until now but I think a recovery/weight management peptide stack is going to unlock this kind of progression for this guy. I'm sure he's on this stuff but I expect there's something else going on here.
Would be interesting to see his gas exchange ratios and fat oxidation rates at various intensities. I wouldn't be surprised if he has an unusually high MFO and crossover point for "some reason". I do hope this isn't a cancer speedrun.
With more pro runners getting into YouTube it’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out for some of these running YouTubers as the market gets saturated with content from more and more content from Olympic level runner. There is only so much money to go around in terms of products to sell. Jakob Ingebrigtsen, John Heyman, Andy Buchanan, Izzy Batt-Doyle, Phil Seseman, Gen Gregson, Clayton Young, Alex Yee, Rory Linkletter, Morgan McDonald all Olympians and all have a YouTube presence now. I’m sure there are more. Still early days for most of them but the market is getting very crowded. Will viewers prefer these types of channels over the run influencers
I much prefer these channels lately over the traditional running YouTuber as the content is more interesting and it doesn’t feel like they are just extended ads for the latest products they are shilling. RTJ and FOD are the only channels I still watch regularly.

It's a sad state of affairs when Philly Bowdens latest moanfest gets more views than Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Alex Yee.

Philly is her own brand, and 'moanfest' is a great term for her videos (though I still watch, it's a bit like observing a particularly violent car crash).
But I'm more drawn to smaller runners. JI and Young are almost too big for me to really care about. Their product feels bloated and full of unsubstantial content. I enjoy the Habtu Cheneys, the Adam Woods, the FloBerg (even if he's a bit of a dork). Are they necessarily influencers? I don't think so, maybe FloBerg.
The JIs and Yees of the world are not only great at what they do, but decent on camera. I just don't think there's the same level of relatability
Money will follow numbers. It will be interesting to see whether that money goes towards the qualified pros, or the above-average runner who is able to market themselves and deliver a consistent, quality, authentic product.
Not sure what that says about the health of the commercial side of our sport
