It shouldn't be taking this long for people to realize that this is the case. It is an effective strategy of course, that's what got the the bald face crier in the WH. But I do think it's just the current trend. Obama easily motivated the masses without using anger and hate. Sadly trump has given the Dems a good reason to weaponize anti-trump emotions, and heck yeah they should use that. Could you think of a bigger threat to democracy right now that an unprincipled reckless dictator wannabe in the WH who has complete control of at least half of the government?
If you roll the tape back to the early 20th century and prior, politics and elections were often much more vicious and disgusting than now. The implications are just that much more critical to world order and the economy now, but really shouldn't be historically surprising.
