I can't bet that 4 Republican senators will make the obviously moral vote and uphold their oath and allow witnesses and additional evidence into the Trump trial. So soon a vote of no to witnesses and yes to acquit will occur.

Interesting that trump has had a long history of bankrupting a number of companies and left with a number of contractors and employees "holding the bag" so to speak. These are people who trusted him and got burned.

Now what shape will he leave the Republican party? They are certainly now morally bankrupt. Each senator will have to explain why they they thought it was better to have less information and no more witnesses at this trial. Why they voted for a cover-up to protect Trump. Trump, as he has done in the past, has hurt and weakened those who have followed and believed in him.

Trump is like the Titanic. It seems like a great trip at first, but it doesn't end well at all.

So in 2019 U.S. economic growth was the lowest since 2016: 2.3%, looks like.

President Trump, of course, had promised his administration would bring three or even four percent growth--six percent was even mentioned at one point. None of that has occurred, but we *do* have a yawning deficit and a ballooning national debt as a result of vain attempts to make it happen.

As is always the case with a national economy, many factors have played a role in the modest growth, and the President has accurately (IMO) listed some of them. What he hasn't said, and won't, is that some of his own policies have held the economy back--he doesn't "do" recognition of self-error. And naturally his people won't give him any blame either: They don't "do" reality.

Also check the chart of our deficit spending. This level of debt is unheard in nonwar and in healthy economic times. It is pretty irresponsible but that won't surprise anyone.

Republican Lamar Alexander has come out and said that Tiny is guilty on abuse of power. He says "not guilty" on obstruction. He says the case is already proven so we don't need more witnesses.

But he thinks that this "abuse of power" is not impeachable. He thinks it is merely inappropriate to use taxpayer money to help himself get re-elected.

That is a sickening bit of twisted logic.

From the beginning I was very upset that they didn't impeach him for bribery. Nobody can argue that bribery is not impeachable because it is directly in the constitution. It's looking like the choice of "abuse of power" was the Democrats' fatal mistake. And our nation will pay dearly for it.

Lamar Alexander is retiring, so he had no re-election pressure.

Juts didn't want to give something to the Democrats.

Trump has been impeached on obstruction of Congress for blocking witnesses from testifying.

Now Republicans in Congress are obstructing justice by not allowing those same witnesses to testify.

When Republican House members demonstrated that they were willing to vote to remove protections in the Affordable Care Act, they were voted out and lost control of the House.

These votes to block testimony and acquit Trump are going to likely cost them the senate.

But more than all of this, I cannot see any future situation of a president being impeached and removed from office.

They have amended the Constitution by precedent.

Bolton is going to do a book tour and interviews in the upcoming months.

If we have a Democrat as president for the next term, that person will essentially be stuck with the bill run up by Trump and the fallout of the trade wars.

If the economy falters, that incumbent may pay the political price regardless of what polices may have contributed to it.

That's exactly what happened with the last two Democratic presidents. Clinton and Obama both had to clean up the fiscal mess of their Republican predecessors.

Clinton took us from a massive deficit to a budget surplus.

Obama took us from the brink of depression to a robust, thriving economy.

I don't want to be cynical but it kinda boils down to people getting what they voted for. Everyone knew what he was about.. the divisiveness, the spewing of anger and hate, stoking the flames of bigotry. No one can sincerely say they thought he was going to try to be a serious president. This cover up is what his base wants, so they are giving it to them. We all know he's a crook, that was never a question. There was no trial because witnesses and new evidence was not allowed, so there can be no acquittal. The only thing that changes now is he gets to be even more openly criminal. We are heading into a much more partisan future... politically this country is in shambles and soon will be economically as well.. then we can stop messing around and get a Dem potus to try to clean up the mess. This is america.

I whole heartily agree bribery or even more accurately extortion should have been used. Those terms carry the political punch that the democrats needed. Republicans would have used those terms.I

I still think senators will pay at election time. The Republican senators sold America out and were remiss fulfilling their oath of office.

Those lawless subpoenas that they sent out in the House before actually passing the impeachment inquiry, what about those?

This is what sticks out to me:

That statement is supported by posts from people like Rigged and Sally.

And it's why I appreciate their posts. It gives us insight to what is going on in the background to make senators vote the way they vote.

These people represent the minority of American thought and opinion but they are currently in power, and they love it.

That's the only way to explain that 75% of Americans wanted to see witnesses and 95% of Republican senators don't what relevant witnesses testifying.
