It takes at least 3 weeks to see any benefit, training at altitude is more stressful than training at sea level so not great for a taper. I can't see the timing of this trip being optimal for a breakthrough performance for him.
Guy has been paid to go out to Ethiopia with Great North Run company, you don't turn an opportunity like that down. He's obviously not done it for a training effect.
No, no one is paying him for coaching advice, he's not one of those YouTubers.
Fella is just a runner who happens to document his journey. You guys (and you're definitely all men) read way to much into all this. No one is paying him, and at no point does he say do as I do.
His patreon has the below description. Maybe not coaching but he probably is giving some running advice to someone.
"For a little while now, I've wanted to create a space that offers more of an opportunity to connect with my hard core BIR community. Think Q+A's, community tabs, interactive chats and personalised videos. A space where we can connect more on a personal basis than simply by watching my Youtube videos."
I don't think Ben needs to do coaching given the number of brands wanting to partner with him (Nike, Coros, Westin, Shyusocks, ProDirect) and his merch line. Also with Meg becoming more prominent on his channel and hopefully we see more of his , this should unlock more brands wanting to sponsor Ben.
However given Ben's extensive knowledge of training, recovery and racing mindset, he would have a lot to offer amateur and sub-elite runners.
I've just discovered this excellent running channel, "Donato" aka poetwithpace who has released a very moving, poignant video where he discusses his current injury and the trouble he had in New York Marathon. I would recommend everyone watch this.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. Just watched this and found it incredibly moving but also inspiring. Great to see him still getting out there in his 60s and doing marathons. He did New York in 5 hours and something which may seem slow to some of the speedy YouTubers we talk about but it’s better than 99% of men in their 60s who probably stick to their sofa. Well done Donato, keep sticking with it.
As for the comment above yours on Ben, yes I tend to agree that he has a lot to offer on the coaching front and quite honestly I’m surprised he doesn’t have his own athletes. I’m sure there’s loads of people who love to have such a famous, charismatic person coaching them. I’d pay good money for that opportunity. I set aside half my monthly wage to get all the pure sport products he recommends but I’m sure I could cut costs somewhere to find the spare cash needed.
Really liking the addition of Meg to the channel too but think she’s underused. We want to hear more about her running journey! Be interesting to see if she could beat Donatos New York marathon time
Dude goes out and cycles a 100 miler on Zwift - Are people paying him for coaching advice?
People like him just arent very bright. They seem to hear buzz words like double threshold and lactate meter, buy into them yet dont understand. If he was using his lactate meter after easy runs he'd see the readings were too high and slow it down. But that wouldnt look good on strava would it
Why would his lactate readings be high on his easy runs? Sure, he probably runs them too fast, but they certainly aren’t above LT1. Maybe you aren’t very bright.
It’s interesting to see how running YouTubers balance content creation with actual training. Unlike professional athletes whose focus is purely performance, these creators have to juggle filming, editing, and engaging an audience all while trying to improve themselves. It’s almost like running a marathon while carrying a camera and a microphone! I have a lot of respect for those who manage to stay consistent with both their training and content. But it also makes me wonder: does the pressure to post frequently ever compromise their actual running or recovery? I’d love to hear if others here follow any YouTubers who seem to strike that balance well.

Mainly doing too many races, hard work-outs and travelling I guess. The actual editing is a job, but it's flexible, work-at-home and many have spouses helping out. So not as good as being a pro but better than what most sub-elite runners have.
FOD Runner and Serious Hobby Jogger are doing sensible training while making videos but their race videos aren't basically high-quality travel vlogs like many others.

Donato pushes his own videos on this forum at least once a week like this hahaha

It’s interesting how many of these shoetubers are very unattractive, yet still popular. Normally for any sort of success in visual media people/actors needed to be highly attractive. Now you have ugly couples like Ben and Meg having a lot of success, along with guys like Ed Budd etc. Is it just running YouTubers who can be ugly and still have successful channels or is it common in other areas? Not being mean to anyone, just truly find it an interesting development.

RTJ has the best approach - running first and YT second. It means his weekly upload is watchable with minimal filler. Contrast that to Philly who typically has multiple uploads providing different spins on the same old story interspersed with shots of coffee making or getting dressed. If she just fed the monster one video a week her mental health, at least, would benefit.
Ben seems to have learnt this time, he's doing more strength work in the gym and cross training on the bike. Really gutting he had to pull out of Valencia as I would have liked to seen him race with the other elites like Sisay Lemma, Yee, Sesemann, Bester, Clayton Young
On a related note Anya Culling has pulled out of Valencia too. There’s been a real influencer exodus from this race with Trees, Felton, Culling and Fry all bailing. Makes me wonder if it’s worth going myself now if there are no superstars

Hugo is doing CIM instead. He’s actually a decent guy and not a shiller like all the other losers. Just seen the Ben and Philly collab story on instagram looks like a collection of all the kids picked last on sports day
