The treaty was needlessly overly punitive to Germany.
The treaty was the first domino. That doesn't mean there weren't any other dominoes.... it means none of them would have fallen over without the first domino starting the chain.
so you agree what caused WW2 was more than the Treaty of Ver?
again, layup here
I never said it was the only cause... I said it was the primary cause.
You dont get Hitler and the Nazis when you did without the Great Depression
maybe you get them at some point, but without the Depression basically ending the Weimar Republics ability to govern you dont get the rise of the Nazis, at least at that juncture
Meanwhile, Hitler and the Nazis pre-date the Great Depression.
yes on earth 2 every political party that exists immediately becomes a country’s ruling party
Going to lay out my full thoughts here, since we’re pretty far afield and this is a complex topic.
The specifics of the Treaty of Versailles were a factor in the rise of the Nazis, but a relatively minor one. The Treaty was the terms of Germany’s defeat in the First World War. The fact of that defeat left millions of veterans with a high capability for violence and a desire for revenge. This would have been true regardless of the treaty.
The economic crisis that immediately precipitated Hitler’s ascent to power was likewise not caused by the Treaty of Versailles. But it did leave many of those veterans unemployed and looking to join radical political movements such as the Nazis. As a result, Hitler was able to take power with a violent plurality.
The repeated failed communist uprisings, the history of European antisemitism, and the general lack of popular support and tradition for liberal democracy in Germany, were also important factors.

See if you can find a map of Germany in 1914.
Then get with that other moron that's obsessed with Chamberlain and Poland and see if you can figure out what the Treaty of Versaille might have had to do with things.

very complex
and you and i are only laying out one country of the many moving parts of the war
but our friend sees things as obviously orchestrated by a single man at any one time
The origins of the Second World War (1939-45) may be traced back to the harsh peace settlement of the First World War (1914-18) and the economic crisis of the 1930s, while more immediate causes were...
The causes of World War Two might seem simple, however, should you dig a little deeper into world politics at the time, you will notice a melting pot...
From the moment the leaders of the victorious Allied nations arrived in France for the peace conference in early 1919, the post‑war reality began to diverge sharply from Wilson’s idealistic vision.
I’m not going to read through this entire thread. I will simply say that I found Trump’s behavior, per usual, appalling. I have no problem with them taking Zelensky to task for corruption, lack of accountability, and an unwillingness to settle the war behind closed doors, but to publicly flog him is embarrassing.
HAVING SAID THAT, I think some of Trump’s beef w Zelensky is that Biden flew Zelensky (taxpayer dime) to PA, of all places, THE potentially most significant swing state, last October and Zelensky and his entourage denigrated Trump/Vance. A move which I was completely appalled by at the time. So a little bit of payback.
Otherwise, he’s trying to “reset” the entire negotiation into making Europe step up way more than they ever have before (again, you don’t do it and alienate your historical allies). But the story of Ukraine is a complicated one. There was plenty of corruption and US interference that pre-dated Trump (one might see the connection to Hunter Biden’s pardon going all the way back to 2014, a very peculiar time, hmmm). Not to mention Nordstream 2 totally bypassing Ukraine such that Ukrainian and US oligarchs would no longer benefit. And, most importantly, Biden invited Russia to invade. The negotiation should’ve happened back in 2022.
