Well, it was one of Bernie's big supporters last week who was talking about how Joe Biden was one of the most corrupt politicians around. So according the the Bernie supporter Joe Biden does not "seem" like one of the most corrupt politicians out there but IS one of the most corrupt.

There will not be the 2/3 majority necessary for conviction. That frees up Trumps attorneys. They don't have to be concerned about presenting a cogent tight case to win. They can say any outlandish thing they want. They can have a goal of bringing down Biden, fighting release of information that makes trump look bad, or saying anything that they feel would rile up the base. In a legitimate trial they would not get away with their nonsense.

But they don't have to worry about winning or ethics. I wonder how they sleep at night knowing they are fighting documents and witnesses that would expose the truth and lead to justice.

While this is true, they will move to shut down this trial as fast as possible. It will not help trump to keep it going. Of course the problem with denying evidence and witness testimony is that it means no trial is actually taking place and therefore there can be exoneration. Even worse for trump, how does it help him at all as drips of evidence of his corruption continue to come out anyway up until election night? He’s going to be fighting for his survival all the way to the finish line, no slack and no breaks. There will be many cracks along the way and too much left unanswered. Will Americans want to put him back in the WH knowing the risk, divisiveness and overall burden he continues to be? I firmly believe much of the super high approval ratings on the right come from trump’s sustained effort to own the libs. His base is driven by fear and hate, no surprise his “leadership” is popular. Still, he’s put all his eggs in one 46% basket.

I wish I had even the slightest faith in Dems getting this message out to voters. But they won't. Dems have no idea right now how to beat R propaganda. Dems bring a knife to a gunfight and get beat. Dems legit believe the Rs are operating in good faith. Rs know that Ds are weak on elections. Rs will just make it seem that every D and every R is the same moral pygmy, and Ds have no idea how to counter that.

What the fear most is the truth. That's why they fight so hard against the release of documents and having witnesses. Even though this makes them look bad, it is better than the feared truth.

That is why they hate the news media, science and higher education. These three groups deal with teaching and giving truthful information about the world. This fear is why they stopped press conferences too. Its why Trump won't release tax records.

The truth is something they fear. The truth has taken a real beating from them, but it's still there and is still a threat to them.

A couple good points from the two previous posters. Trumps lawyers want this to end soon but they want it to end with a sense of outrage that trump was so mistreated. As far as agips point, the dems are not as good at 1 lying, and 2 creating and repeating the same simple sound bites that stick with people and 3 getting everyone to repeat the same message.

If you loved the truth you would do anything to reveal it. You would want all pertinent documents and you would want more witnesses. Now you might be ok with that but the Republican senators certainly don't want the truth.

I think it is ridiculous that the Senate plans to have a trial with no witnesses. Just absurd. But the House screwed the Repubs like they always do in the House impeachment. The Dems always never try to have a fair process. If they have the majority they will ram it down the Republ's throats - screw the American people. The Dems have such an agenda that they care not one whit about fairness. They want to pursue power at all expense. Just a shame.

It's still an interpretation with some exagerations and additions, but the gist was that Schiff thought it was a shake down. The WH never released the full transcript so we don't know if the asking 8 times is true.

Trump's interpretation was that it was a perfect phone call. Trump said that he was asking for investigations into the Bidens and CrowdStrike on behalf of the country. Is that not a lie?
