Not admitting his “mistakes” and showing no remorse will score him a very short term and short lived victory but in the long run (2020 election) it will hurt him. How long can the daisy chain of lying and corruption go on for without snapping?

After making this through this, Trump is either going to count his blessings and behave over the next ten months - or feel invincible and push things even more over the ethics line.

I saw that on CNN. Trump was downplaying it saying it wasn't that bad.

Ok, let's see how they are next week. Next year. 10 years from now.

I think Trump has had a brain injury ever since he decided to team up with Putin.

Trump is in a corner. The base will think the pitch by the Republican lawyers basically emphatically stating that "this is a political hoax so lets get it over with fast" is a good argument.

But for thinking folks, Trump is placed in a corner. If the Senate refuses witnesses and additional documents and then says there is not evidence, everyone will see this as a cover up. The thinking people will think Trump is guilty and got away with it.

If they have more witnesses, that won't be good for Trump. We all know, the truth will sink Trump.

Its a no win situation for Trump.

Fun but also sad to watch is Trumps series of lies and back flips, I want to testify (early) , I want witnesses, I want a long trial, to the direct opposite position now.

Trump will make the cowardly Senators look very weak for refusing witnesses.

Assuming the Dems understood very well there would be no way to get 2/3 to remove him, even with all the evidence in the world - then this is exactly why they chose to put the ball on the GOP’s court and make them own the decision not to let the evidence come out. The electorate’s motivation and memory will be tested.

100% Agree, but electorate's memory is always questionable. Their attention is easily manipulated to be diverted from thinking of important issues. Let's hope this sticks.

Trump 2020??

I believe that most people are aware that Trump is denying everything and the Republicans are blocking testimony, but his approval ratings are stable. If they are successful I doubt anything will change.

Allowing testimony would have a huge negative effect for Trump. More people will become aware of exactly what he did and that he lied like a dog to protect himself. He would still be acquitted, but I can't imagine him still winning in 2020.
