He's accused of withholding funding to Ukraine to pressure their president to make a public statement on Trump's political rival.

He did withhold the funding, in fact ordered the withholding 90 minutes after asking the Ukraine president to look into Biden publicly.

He's also accused of preventing impeachment witnesses from testifying.

He clearly did that.

What could someone say to clear Trump of these charges?

LL - actually I thought the phone transcript was quite damning. But it seems everyone has moved on from that. No evidence is EVER going to get Dems in the Senate to acquit him. NONE WHATSOVER. Dems are so over the top now that they can never be objective.

Agree, pubs only strategy is to end this before some kind of trial breaks out - but they don’t have the votes.

Since the bar is ultra low, there is a lot that could "exonerate" him. Bolton could show up and say from his knowledge the president only wanted to fight corruption (focus on intent). He can say it wasn't trump's idea to withhold the funding. The defense team could say trump is concerned about national security and had to block the witnesses (argue executive privilege). By not further incriminating him any witness could effectively "exonerate" him... but this is of course not possible unless they lie under oath.
