Round 2 tomorrow at Beckenham Place. After getting his arse kicked by 37 amateur runners with full time jobs in Round 1 will Bester no show? Highly likely given the cult is assembling at the Brighton 10k on Sunday. Boomwankawanka.
He’s running Brighton 10k on Sunday. I’m not sure why he would risk a XC race 4 weeks out from a pancake flat road marathon.
His latest 3x10k vid was ridiculous. Seeing some 6ft Power Ranger in full running race kit pounding round Battersea being filmed by his own cheerleader while construction workers were grafting away was an interesting dichotomy.
Because he's running for Holland Sports AC in the brutal Surrey Cross Country League, that's why. After Saturday a pancake flat marathon, as you call it, will be a piece of cake in comparison.
A few years ago there was a Barnett posting London parkrun videos with a dry sarcastic wit. Wondering if it was this guy but looking back that was David and not an I so probably not him then.
Just stumbled across the YouTube channel of Andy Millman. ItsOnAndy.
Seems quite a likeable, relatable bloke.
what’s with so many YouTubers in the midlands though!
Met Andy at the Bourton 10K. Nice guy even if he beat me that time :) Definitely improving well as a runner. Doing Seville in Feb looking for about 3:10. Makes a change from the sub 2:20 aspirants :) "Relatable" - well to me these days...
Anyway furthest north I usually get is Milton Keynes :)
What's up with his times? Is it just lack of natural talent. For someone with all the gear, hitting 80km weeks consistently to struggle for so long to break 20 mins in the 5k and 1:30 in the half is crazy.
Seemingly not really a taper as the rest of us might do one. Almost 60 miles in 3 days including a 14:56 5K "tempo" and then calf issue after a mile on 2nd run of the day yesterday.
Are you seriously suggesting he should do a taper "as the rest of us might do one", like cutting his volume by 80 or something?
If RTJ was anyone else he would be getting ridiculed so hard on this thread for these ChatGPT based decisions. Why race a half when 'tapering' and on the brink of an injury. Just pointless but I guess that's the fun.
Agreed. Getting advice from ChatGPT is the dumbest thing ever. If this was some other Run-influncer like Benisrunning, you guys will be ragging on him so hard.
The fact that he tells everyone he takes running injury advice from chatgpt is the dumbest thing ever. He doesn't even comprehend that chatGPT will give you positive framing and agree with your question. I also think as he's gotten more popular, RTJ fans have become more annoying as they can't accept any criticism of him.

He's not getting flack because thjs is RTJ's whole schtick: making reckless, even stupid, decisions in training. Train harder, not smarter, etc.
If Matt Fox tries to come back to the US on a boat (currently in Australia with a sacrum stress fracture), will it be bombed by our department of war?
I recall him saying on his first podcast back that he'd gained a bit of weight while in detention. I bet he tried to shed it while he was going (pretty quickly) into full training. Recipe for a stressie
I love how the Americans don’t realise that RTJ is taking the piss. He’s British, it’s called sarcasm. He’s obviously not taking ChatGPT as gospel.
You can tell he’s way more calculated with his decisions than he likes to make out. Look at how fast he’s managed to grow his YouTube channel. There’s a reason he’s so popular on there. His training is clearly smart but that doesn’t get people talking like the whole Train Harder thing

This is it. Some people on here do seem incredibly dense and unable to tell when somebody is making a tongue in cheek comment. Bit embarrassing really.
Anway, RtJ decided against running the half today as a precaution. Did run a 10k in 29 minutes though.
I know lots of people here think Jake Barraclough (RTJ) has a chance of winning comrades, or at least doing really well. In 214 days we will find out -
- Thomas and robbe suck sh-t at trail running. Half the podcast is them complaining about running 14 miles on the Appalachian trail. Thomas talks endless sh-t about how bad the trail is. They both roll their ankles multiple times. Robbe seems confident he will be able to finish the race. Thomas is still contemplating DNSing JFK 50. They will both have complementary shoes and kits for the race regardless. It’s a good thing they have dirt Taylor now to start and dnf trail races for them.
- Thomas doesn’t fold his own laundry. Meg does it for him.
- they complain once again about how much gear they get. How many clothes they have to manage, launder, and pack (especially when they’re doing trips sponsored by multiple brands and so have to pack for each brand)
- they all talk endless sh-t about a shoe they actually like. Everything about it is apparently great but it doesn’t fit their aesthetic.
okay but the last 3 minutes of the most recent Drop podcast is the footage Thomas took of his trail "run" with Robbe and it honestly was pretty funny (unintentionally of course). they're like Dumb and Dumber out there huffing and puffing about the jagged rocks and getting lost all while wearing the best gear and shoes money can buy. such an odd couple. 😆
He obviously has potential to be a good ultra runner but a win is a bit optimistic. Top 10 might be possible. The reality is marathon times aren't a great indicator when you approach 100k distance - it's much more about running economy and durability and people who run marathons in mid/low 2:20s can beat 2:10 marathon runners over comrades distance.
