I'm surprised they aren't higher in the poll...

Agreed about the SLU men. Although I think they can, they have yet to prove they can beat NYU. SLU women look to be regional favorites if they can get more consistent results from their 4-5 runners.

You might make the case for U of R to be ahead of Ithaca, but not RIT or Platts. Only having one runner who has cracked 26 isn't going to cut it.

Compare their results from week to week, no improvement from 9/12-10/3, very inconsistent top 7 and not as fast as years past. All this makes them vulnerable to the teams behind them. I'm not saying it is going to happen, but it CAN.

Maybe the inconsistent top 7 means that they're very deep, and positioning on the team all depends on who has the best day. I wouldn't say that is a disadvantage, having 7 guys who are all capable of stepping up...

NYU is 4th because all the upstate coaches are the ones who vote, and arent capable of looking at anything that isnt right in front of them. They all saw SLU in person early in the season, beat people at small shit meets.

SLU got their butt's kicked at Paul Short, NYU was right with Williams on WIlliams home course. Williams is fourth in the national poll, NYU fourth in regional poll?? These are the same coaches who kept voting Geneseo ahead of NYU the last 2 years.

Until Maher comes in and crushes some bitches (like we are waiting for him to do) and Calvin Lee and the rest of the NYU team get into a race that produces solid times I don't see why anyone should give NYU credit. 4th is a gift with the limited data we have on them now. At least we can see that SLU is kicking the shit out of people (sometimes).

Thinking about it now, I would have expected SLU to be better at that meet. Perhaps the top 4 in the region is not as solid as I imagined at the beginning of the season. Seems more like a top 2 now.

Looks likes like a nice build up to a major break thru at regional, running more like a team this year too, everyone seem to be helping each other get better. No one wants to run their best race early in the season. Think new coach is making a big difference.

Karl's 3:57 mile was a great accomplishment for a collegiate runner. Like Symmonds, however, his range was limited to the 800/1500 events. He did compete well at XC, but was never a national champion at XC or the longer events (Kosgei has won the XC, steeple and 5000).

Kosgei also won the 800 at indoor nats in 2008, defeating Jimmy O'Brien on his home track despite doubling mile/800. So his tally thus far:

5000-2x

Mile-2x

800-1x

XC-1x

Does anyone know if he will run XC next fall? He just ran one very early race his freshman year as I recall. It would be hard to imagine him not significantly improving this tally by the end of the year. I think it's fair to say he's the best overall Division III runner when taking into account his 800-XC accomplishments.

Maybe we're only talking distance runners here, but Edwin Moses set the world record and won the Olympics while at DIII Morehouse.

47.45 is over 2.5 seconds faster than the number 2 time in D3 history.

He is the best runner in D3 history.

Oswego is gonna beat brockport at regionals. brockport has not improved at all.

NYU was in a race against the number 4 ranked team in DIII, and only lost by 20points without their number one returning guy. Their 1-4 spread is about 15-20 seconds.

Know your facts, and obviously NYU is training and trying not to over race early on in the season.

good call dude. good thing I was arguing for them maybe not being as high in the ranking right now. not that they are not/ will not be a good team. if any other team lost to the 4th rank team in D3 with a fastest individual time of 26:03, I don't think anyone would think much of them.

Think about it.

You realize the 26:03 by Calvin Lee was run at Williams right? Their home course is a pretty difficult course. People who have ran sub 26 on that course is an All American type runners. Look back at past results on that course. For example, if you look back at new england regionals last year, only Kosgei from Williams broke 26, with Faller from Tufts at low 26:00.

NYU is ready to go and is obviously underrated, which is not surprising with all the SUNY guys jerking each other off.

Its XC, not track. Time is somewhat irrelevant. Williams guys were top 4 at NCAA's last year, Edgar Kosgey is a top 5 guy most likely at NCAA's this year, he 'only' ran 25:50.

NYU put a bunch of guys in front of Watts and Perlis who both scored for Williams at NCAA's last year. I am not sure where NYU and Williams should be ranked, but the fact is they should be ranked close, probably both top 10.
