His world ranking will increase after this race, and it MIGHT increase from other races he does. If he's in the world ranking quota by the time USATF names the team, that might do it.
Some competitive races which were fun to watch. The distance races have to go faster though, Cole Hocker had no business winning the 5k, he even implied as such in his interview. Shelby too. Times were pathetic. I realize for some it’s a double but these are the best athletes in the world, let’s show some moxy. Give Hoey and Neguse credit, they tried to make their races fast. Many of these athletes are gonna get smoked at Worlds.
What happened to Schweizer this meet?? goes from making both teams a few years ago to not even making either team this year? She was barely in the mix n both races
Whatever happened, she and Shelby did not appear to be discussing it after the race.

What does that mean - were they ignoring each other??
How is possible for Hunter to go without standard?

Hunter is 79th - 1168p, 42nd has 1212p. Hunter needs to run deep under 13min to get 1212 or more. Anybody here believe in that?!?!?
I do . . . if Drew manages to get a spot on the line @ Lausanne DL 5000 on 8/20.
Grant & Nico will be there. Don't know about Graham & Cooper. Cole said no more racing for him until Tokyo.
If Grant and/or Nico make the Zurich DL final on 8/27-28 and win the 3000 there, he gets the bye to Tokyo . . . meaning, Drew also goes to Tokyo presuming he gets his 13:01 Q in Lausanne or somewhere else, or has improved his WA quota rankings into the top-42 by August 24th.
Frankly, the longest of long shots is not Drew getting his Q or going to Tokyo. It's his agent convincing the Lausanne meet manager to accept Drew in the first place.
Of course, all this presumes Drew is willing to chase times -- something he's stated several times this year he's adamant about not doing.

I really respect your belief and support to any good runner, in this case, Drew Hunter. Actually I am not sure who I want to see in Tokio 5000m. Cole Hocker trying to run 5000 and realize that is no so simple after 3 rounds of 1500m, Copper Teare, just to see what he can do fresh in 5000, or like you expecting Drew Hunter! I just want deep field. Very unhappy about Nuguse missing too. I am sorry for my mistake, 13:01 to get standard not under 13.

If he takes part in the NACAC championships, that can really boost his rankings too. Kieran Tuntivate is on the borderline of the World Rankings Quota in big part because he got 2nd in the Asian Championships this year. Drew is definitely capable of winning the NACAC championships with how close he was to beating Nico here (even if he was on tired legs and ran a sub-optimal race, the point still stands). Plus, this 4th place performance boosted his World Rankings points to 1186, so he only needs to improve his average by about 26 points instead (potentially a few points more due to different people's national final performances in other countries boosting the borderline). 150 placement points for a win plus a decently fast finish. He's run 13:14, this season, so if he gets a performance around that, plus winning, he would get 1305 points, which would boost his average rankings by 49-50 points, which would be more than enough to get high enough in the World Rankings Quota.
