Parents and girls sue to block participation of transgender athletes

Anyone else think it is wrong that the ACLU has sided with the trans athletes and not the girls? There is no opposition to them competing, only that they must compete in the division that includes those born with testicles. A person can choose an identity, but they cannot choose whether or not to be born with testicles that confer an indisputable athletic advantage.

Participating in athletic competition is not a human right, it's a privilege and there are standards and rules that are in place to keep the competition fair. Obviously a male to female transgender will have tremendous advantage over their natural female competitors. Let's use some common sense here. If a male wants to transition to being female, giving up their ability to compete in a women's competitive sports league should be an accepted sacrifice. Let not pamper to a sliver of the population when it severely impacts the integrity of the sport for the 99.7% of other athletes.

I've been following this story for quite some time, and I have to say I am so conflicted.

I'm a cis-woman. In high school I was pretty competitive in that I was All State, but not so competitive that I was winning any titles. I was a contender. I was deeply passionate about running, immersed in the sport and took it more seriously than I have truly ever taken anything in my life. I qualified for so many championship races by the skin of my teeth. 6th place here, where top 8 make it, 2nd place there, where top 4 move on and so forth.

Accolades and achievement was a huge part of my running career, and what I took most seriously at the time. But looking back, simply participating in a high school sport, being a part of a team, forming memories with teammates, and staying fit was as much a highlight of my career as anything. I'm thankful for both aspects of my high school career, and feel strongly that all kids should have access to it.

But achievement matters, and fairness matters. It is intellectually dishonest to say that there isn't a conflict here. I understand where the three cis-girls filing the suit are coming from. Their passion for the sport is as strong as mine was, and they feel that much was taken from them because of an unfair advantage.

But then I think about the trans girls. They aren't just winning state titles. They are a part of a community at their school, building memories with teammates that will always be fondest when they look back on high school. Taking that away from these kids seems unfair, and callous.

Who wins? I don't know. Objectively, I think the trans girls will win the lawsuit. I have conflict about this still, but if that does ultimately happen, I'll settle with the knowledge that we can't go wrong with letting kids be kids, have fun, and all have a chance to compete.

TLDR:

I believe that there is an unfair advantage, but any solution (especially blocking the trans girls from competition) seems callous and cruel to the trans kids.

I would do anything to support this nonsensical practice. Not fair to the real girls who deserve their places on the podium. Stop this craziness shame on the Connecticut school district

The thread title is erroneous and biased. No one is trying to block, bar or ban transgender athletes from participation in sports.

Girls, women and feminists like myself who want to protect female sports for female people believe that trans athletes have every right to participate fully in sports and life. We support the right of non-conformist males to get hair extensions, wear padded bras and make-up, and have their nails varnished in bright and glittery hues they consider "girly."

We're simply saying that when it comes to sports, males who want to be or "identify as" girls or women should compete in their own biological sex category. Because IRL girls and women don't have dicks, balls and prostates - and we don't go through male puberty and obtain from it all the lifelong athletic advantages that male human beings do.

This video will be strong tea for many here, but it represents the views of many of us female humans in the US who grew up before and since Title IX started to give female people a fair shake in sports:

The problem is that there is a large racial component here. No one talks about. The plaintiffs are ehite girls from rich white towns in CT. The same town thay heckled black players in other sports.

Their ringleader has had some race issues in the past. She also is just a slow girl who wouldn’t win anything.

There has always been legal segregation and discrimination and sports. Boys don't compete against girls. We have age groups/grade groups.

Sports are supposed to be pure. This not only does damage to this purity, it takes away women's rights to compete in a fair playing field. If all men identify as trans are allowed to compete as women, women that are born biologically as a female will no longer be able to compete. Should be based on genetics (chromosomes), not identity.

I agree that the right to marry or sleep with who you want is a fundamental right.

Choosing to run in female races just because you identify as a woman is not a fundamnetal right. Transgenders can identify with whatever sex they choose but only be allowed to compete in the sex of the anatomy they were born with. That should be the end of the story.

If a guy starts taking estrogen at 16 or 17. He still has the benefits of the years of testerone. Plus being physically stronger, lower fat, higher bone density, etc. This argument is asinine.

As a male athlete if I were allowed to compete with female athletes in high school the records would be unbreakable. I ran 1:54 in the 800 and 48.7 in the 400. No hs female should be objected to that.

If that were the case, it would be the death of sports for Females. No more athletic scholarships, no more sports teams, etc.

Biological men would dominate every area. A top female in her sport is still ranked like in the 1000s for guys

Cancel the state meet. No more medals, trophies, or championships. All meets are all comers. Post the results in alphabetical order. Everyone participates for the love of the sport and the chance to declare themselves the fastest runner in a red uniform wearing black socks and yellow spikes whose name starts with K, or whatever.
