I don't understand why people are so excited about a war. If you have a high school diploma (Or not, nowadays) you can walk into a recruiters office and join the military. Why fantasize about a war online when you can be part of one today.

Have you ever read The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann? Towards the end of the novel he discusses how a European society became bored with the rampant Bourgeoisie lifestyle and were foaming at the mouth for a fight. They searched for things to get angry about and after hitting critical mass that raving for a fight became WWI.

I read that book about a year ago and felt like it mirrored today's society. I think we all need to buckle up, because most of us under the age of 45 have a good chance of entering battle in the coming years. I don't want war. I don't want to fight. But a lot of people seem like they do want a fight. It baffles me. May God be with us all and I hope peace reigns supreme.

We don’t need more soldiers, homie. We can fire 90% of our soldiers and sailors and still kick Iran’s ass. It’s a beautiful thing. Maybe we just use the coast guard reserve units.

I am not sure what you mean by this... Mann was documenting European attitudes leading up to WWI. Hitler was documenting German attitudes leading up to WWII.

It's also worth noting that the Obama Administration listed him as a terrorist back in 2011.

Europeans didn't pay close enough attention to the American Civil War, because Euros are smug, shirt-sighted hedonic pricks. They believed that a shooting war there would be a much more erudite affair with minimal loss and suffering. The actual war fighters took lessons from the Americans though and made great progress in industrialized warfare during the Great War. The idiot Euros were in no way prepared for a real, hot mechanized and industrialized war, which is what they got, in addition to the frequent use of chemicals. Great lesson to learn is that Euros are trash.

All wars, even ones that start in the air, require ground action., assuming one wants to take and hold terrain. If we didn't want to hold terrain, we could set Iran back 50 years or more with air power if we wanted to, could obliterate their seats of power and their oil infrastructure. All without ground action, all in a week.

It would be so nice if an American President could, with rogue nations like Iran and from time to time, wreak utter destruction on their infrastructure, destroy their economic capacity, reduce to rubble their government infrastructure, all from the air, and then fly away. Like Bush's Shock-And-Awe but without the disastrous rest of that war. Good luck rebuilding you filthy animals. Enjoy great suffering for the next few decades. We'll welcome you to the nations of the world when you're ready.

I think your analysis is wrong. I think he absolutely doesn't want war.

Now not knowing anything about this case, I woke up and was like, "Holy shit, Trump just assasinated the 2nd most powerful man in Iran."

Then i read about it and here are my conclusions.

I think Trump wants to do the following

1) Not be involved in foreign wars.

2) Not be viewed as a wimp. To be viewed as a badass that the world fears and respect.

3) Not have another "Benghazi" where US people were left to die as he ripped hilary for that.

The first two are conflicting. He had called off a missle strike a few months ago and the Iranians were taking advantage of the situation, killing the US contractor last week and then attacking our embassy last week which under international law is the same as attacking US soil.

So Trump responds boldly or crazily depending on how you see it.

It's kind of amazing as I was talking to a friend the other day who doesn't like Trump at all and they said, "I think the fact that he is viewed as unpredictable/crazy may help us in foreign policy as the other countries have no idea what we'll do."

If one views this as simple as, "This guy just killed an American in Iraq last week, so now we killed him in Iraq" then it seems pretty justified.

I think the rule of , "If you fu** with America or Americans, you will be fu**** by us immediately" is a decent one to establish.
