Why do you keep mentioning Lawrence?

Not a one of you has sufficiently put forth an argument why Colleen should sacrifice her livelihood to prematurely abandon a race that she thought she had a chance to compete in. It's just "ugh, she so selfish!" nonsense.
Some of these posts are totally inaccurate. Colleen has run many races before, coming off of a long injury, and proved she could run a world class time. Also, she has bone marrow edema which can improve much quicker than a fracture. She also mentioned in her posts that she was running again. It was the jumping that was the huge question mark. She probably felt a little pain yesterday and decided not to risk damaging it.

Agreed. People are not using logic .Also, if you are the alternate it is on you to be 100% trained and ready to go until the last minute. I was an alternate a couple times and once was brought in at the 11th hour.

I too have been the alternate as well as coached alternates. Even a HS team would bring an alternate. Not sure if this is on the alternate or USATF for not getting her there. She should be trained and ready to go especially if you are backing up someone that is as fragile and CQ.
Colleen had every right to take her time (yes even to the moment before) to see if things turned around with her injury.

Rojo, you cant be serious? The USATF doesn't exist to help further our athletes participation. They're too busy making plans for themselves. Tours, shopping, world class dining. They've got a lot of per diem on the plate to spend. So many opportunities so little time.
Sad but true. The whole story is saddening, without any winner.

Lawrence was never on the Team .
yet another reason to not like the bowman group
Howard, if put in Quigley's position, would have done exactly the same thing. Wait till the last minute to see if her injury allows her to run. What hard information could USATF have given Howard until Quigley actually scratched? We heard a rumor on the Letsrun message board that Quigley's injured? The final roster was probably handed in a week ago.
As I understand it, each country can only enter 4 athletes per event that's it. Typically this is 3 qualifiers and 1 alternate. There is not a space on the entry form for a 4th athletes. So when a country like the USA has 4 athletes competing, there is literally no alternate listed. For example in the Men's 5,000 M Ben True was the 4th entry and was able to go because a top 3 finisher got hurt, yet that same room is not there when there is 4 competing in the event. I was on the staff in 2015 and this is my best understanding of why they do not go to a 5th place finisher in these events. I this been the typical 3 without Emma winning the 2017 Worlds, Allie would have been the alternate and would have likely been named since 4 (3 with one alternate) is how the IAAF sees it.
I hope this helps and this is an IAAF Policy not USATF nor Bowerman.

Quigley took the trip and money when she hadn’t worked out for almost a month. As well as being injured, there’s a question if fitness.
Pulling out would have been a huge break for the alternate and the right and decent action.
You shouldn’t have to teach athletes how to be decent people - but the “world’s best coach”, Jack Daniels, covers this exact scenario.
Well said . Truly a lack of class Quigley . Very sad her lack of respect for the sport .

The BrosJo should run this to ground. If true this means all the discussion on this topic, including my own, were based on a totally false understanding. This is a reasonably important thread for someone’s image.
Colleen Quigley isn't hot. Cute? Maybe at best. Sara Hall is way hotter!
David Payne had a similar story to Howard but with a happier ending in Osaka:
http://www.usatf.org/Athlete-Bios/Archive-Bios/David-Payne.aspx
Marisa Howard: "I am on the tail-end of a two week break and the decision would be left solely up to my coach if he would let me run. We didn't want to keep running in the "hopes" of her pulling out and extend my season based on a late decision by her. More than anything it is a huge financial opportunity for an unsponsored athlete."
From her own words, she just wanted some flights to Doha to cash on her bonus. She didn't even kept training. If I was USATF I'd have zero interest in having her go to Worlds.
Quigley = Anna Kournikova of the steeplechase?

Oh, because she's definitely working paycheck to paycheck, I forgot

French Braid Friday Doha Video coming soon!
She should think about someone else besides herself.
Ostrander will make the Olympic team next year; Quigley weighed down by Bad Karma probably won't.
