and I am with you in spirit!
i dunno if any one already posted this, but its funny how she states that, "My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view." when its because of wars against similar Tyrants that we have this basic freedom.
Good point!
I wish the Dixie Chicks would agree to be human shields so we could do away with them. If they did that Natilie could shield the entire country. She's HUGE!!!!!!!
thought this thread needed a sponsor: VAAM
Thank you for suggesting Natalie be used as a human shield. While I can't guarantee we will use that specific military strategy, I will bring it up at the next joint chiefs briefing.
Bravo to the Dixie Chicks for intelligently speaking their minds, as the First Amendment suggests they can do. Maybe we should start calling them the Freedom Chicks.
"They" are country music stations, which are privately owned. They can choose to play or not play certain artists. It is their option, just like it is your option to listen to and support the station. Also, these stations (or at least the one mentioned in the article) have the listener\'s support.
It is not our job to criticize the president. It is our job to elect the president.
Would anyone like to know what I think???
Earl
What was the blunder? That they spoke their minds?
Since when was that a blunder in a country that calls itself free?
Your premise is scary.
Earl,
I'm fixin ta ask what you be thinkin.
Now I'm down right askin what you be thinkin. What you been thinkin?

Stopped what? Are you drunk or just an idiot? What he needs to stop is messing around with the UN, kick em off our soil, then start (not stop) dropping nukes on muslims over there!
I'm not drunk and not an idiot. What I am, however, is rational. Killing a bunch of people that look different, talk different, and worship different than mainstream Americans is not going to do anything good for us or anyone else, except maybe fuel the terrorist business. A war would be expensive, not only in human lives but to the world economy ($1 trillion + for a short bombardment). However, keeping the UN inspectors around all the time my not instantly dissarm Iraq but it will slowly widdle away at them. More importantly it will keep them subdued. With the world watching closely they'll be on their best behavior.
Lee, it is views like yours that give Americans a very bad name and is the exact reason why there is so much anti-American sentiment in the world today.

Drewp (Prisner, I assume), blunder it was if you are looking at it from a career standpoint. Yes, they are free to say whatever they want. I think the original poster meant it was a blunder careerwise that will cost the money. Of course, I know what you are thinking, they have plenty of money and that is true as well!
Thank you, celeriter you expressed a point that Ive been trying to get accross to a lot of people. We dont know everything the top govt officials do so we are in no position to think we know more or can make a better decision. My take on it is that we can voice our opinions based on what little we know but must have faith in our leaders to do what they think is best for us. They have tough decisions to make which takes guts which I really do believe they have. I dont believe our leaders are evil and want to kill us and other innocent people and screw us all over. Why would they? We need to have faith in our leader whether we voted for him or not. I know I do.

Well, I guess some people learned the lesson of Vietnam, others didn't. No, our leaders probably aren't evil. It's their wisdom that's in question. When people like Robert McNamara admit that Vietnam was all a mistake -- that the lives of 50,000 Americans and millions of Vietnamese were wasted -- it's only reasonable that people would be wary of getting burned again.
And don't assume that those in authority are privy to information that changes everything. They are not. Politicians with access to classified information, like Bob Gram of Florida, have said again and again they have seen NOTHING that justifies a war with Iraq.
And given the performance of our intelligence community in recent years, I seriously doubt their competence to produce anything useful. Watch the FBI chief, Mueller, on CSPAN some time. He'll vehemently challenge any politician that threatens to take responsibility for domestic intelligence away from the FBI. But when they ask him question about specifics, such as how the database of known terrorists in the U.S. is to be integrated with the president's proposed terrorism information center, he's left redfaced and spluttering acronyms: "I don't know how the TIF will be integrated with the TTIC. I'll have to get back to you on that." Even about a matter as important as tracking the whereabouts of terrorists NOW IN THE U.S, the head of the FBI is clueless.
I wouldn't have so much faith in the government if I were you. After all, Jr. has said time and time again that he doesn't trust the bureaucracy. Why should we?
This "the President has PRIVILEGED INFORMATION that he can't share with us" is the same bullshite that was trotted out to justify Tricky Dick when he expanded the Viet Nam war into Cambodia and flushed tens of thousands of lives into the Eternal Crapper. I got news: the only "Special Information" that GW has is that America is loaded with sheep-like $uckas and that he is willing to do anything to get re-elected. Since he has no economic or domestic plan other than to restrict civil rights and put us into a wartime mindset, his recourse is to Lone Ranger us into a conflict that will send America into an unprecedented economic and political downward spiral. He is asking for a blank check for himself and his country-club cronies to be paid in the blood of innocents, including American GI's that had no dea of the $hit they were in for when they signed on.
The rest of the world sees through this crap, but the bloated, hungover prom queen of American Ignorance staggers into her SUV and heads off towards the toxic waste dump of Iraq, weaving the wrong way down a one-way road without the lights on, foot on the gas....
Nice post Bud,
What TheKing and his cronies are in denial of is that WE made Hussein the menace that he is today. Not one person in the Bush Admin is willing to accept this or even comment on it. No wonder the rest of the world is sceptical of us going in to get him and his weapons. They were just as evil when we gave them to him, why this big show of concern for the "Iraqi people". Like we really care how terrible their lives are under Saddam.
As for the Dixie Chicks, when the rednecks and radio stations start boycotting their commercial country crap, they'll change their story. They're already apologizing to Bush..pathetic.
Its all about free speech..you know the kind that got someone kicked out of a mall for wearing a peace tshirt.

Nope. I'd hate for some other poor sap to be blamed for my opinions.

But the original poster didn't say that. They said they "used to like the Dixie Chicks," implying that s/he does not like them now. Which implies either that they've done something wrong or that s/he disagrees with them. If s/he dislikes them for speaking their mind, that's wrong. If s/he dislikes them because their views differ, that's simply not conducive to the kind of healthy debate necessary for a democracy.
That "Fine, I don't like you and I'll just take my ball home" attitude is part of the problem with politics in the U.S. We don't like to talk about politics because we're not very good at holding civil discussion about it. It too often deteriorates into confrontation and insult (just look at this board). I think that's unhealthy for a democracy.
Being boycotted from country music stations is the best thing that can happen to a country musician. You know you suck as a musician when you win a country music award.
That in Georgia tomorrow they are expecting hundreds, if not a few thousand, to show up at a Dixie Chick poster and music burning......WOW, I don't think they ever thought it through.
