Yup, transferring out of Stanford sounds like the smartest decision for kids that actually got into Stanford. I'm sure they were given the speech, only 1% of you will run professionally, the rest of you will either transfer or work in Silicon Valley.
I can't believe they're going to accept, but rumors the last days out here in Des Moines have 2 sets of husband/wife pairs where one will volunteer heading to the Farm for distance. Actually a good idea to get away from the salary issue of housing affordability and get a "free" coach.

Although it is probably against the law, what you need to do is precisely what the previous coaches did: only consider assistants that don’t have kids.
Vanhoy makes sense being newly engaged. Would be big pickup for the farm.
Just looked at a video of Vanhoy hugging one of his male athletes who after hard work came back from stress fracture to place 5th. Not gonna lie - gave me the feels. This dude is the real deal. Looks like he really really cares about his athletes. Don’t sleep on Will Palmer and his wife Samantha Bluske (got those Georgetown ties that Stanford likes). Palmer is great recruiter with ops experience and has put together big meets. Good coach and great guy. Some people mixed about Clark but these distance hires are deal breakers. Do the right thing J.J.!

Powell’s grand slam for sure, but not happening. They’re not leaving being in charge.
Gary’s would be good with Rob’s elite runners over the years being appealing to the better athletes on the team and recruits, but they have a great set up at Furman. Don’t believe Gibby would work well with the stud athletes on the Stanford roster; he is more of a big roster, big mileage hammer away. Vanhoy with fiancé volunteering for the longer distance woman would work well. If he can be successful at Ole Miss, seems like he would kill at Stanford. Not sure Palmer has ever truly led a team before and Stanford is a big first assignment. I don’t believe the Carroll’s have enough experience, but I am sure they’d jump at chance to work together. As for the poster saying to hire a young hungry assistant to handle the men; I don’t think JJ is the sort of delegator/teacher. That hire needs to be fairly self-sufficient.
Who knows if this pairs coaching is even true, but it is fun handicapping.

The only problem with VanHoy bringing his fiancé to coach the women at Stanford would be her coaching or lack of coaching ability. She is a lousy coach.
