You are right that the European cultures are being erased, but not by the European Union per se, but by mass migration. That's why you will see a lot of African athletes in these "European" championships. And that's why the Brits voted for the Brexit.

Which is moronic, because coming out the the EU isn't going to stop immigration from outside of the EU. If we wanted we could have stopped that already.

The EU discussion revolves around supranationalism vs intergovernmentalism. The EU claims to be an intergovernmental organisation.

This is not true and it actually uses both supranational and intergovernmental structures in its organisation.

It is absolutely true that, among the senior ranks of the EU hierarchy, there are many people looking to the long-term establishment of the superstate. There are very few to no people who are looking to repatriate powers to the nation states.

The EU and ever closer union absolutely are about the creation of a superstate. Anyone who does not realise this can be safely dismissed.

People are representing their respective countries at these champs, not the EU as a whole

Ha ha, it's not as simple as that though is it - the host Country isn't even represented in these championships! Neither is England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

So you've actually got a political union competing within a non political (i.e. not EU) geographical championships.

Migration, even mass migration, and erasure of cultures is nothing new in Europe. Just ask the Celts or the Cathars. I’m pretty sure the Celts didn’t feel better because they were being pushed out of their country by white folks.

PS Much of what we think of as traditional culture is a recent invention. Tartans, for example, were only tied to clans in the 1800s, often by commercial weavers in England. Then there’s the Pledge of Allegiance, written by a socialist to indoctrinate the youth of America.

The UK would be represented but it makes sense, given the political situation in Northern Ireland, for an allowance to be made for NI citizens who want to represent Ireland so Britain is used as the default UK team.

But it's really the UK team. So the home nation was indeed represented.

RE Muir - as a Scotsman in the mid west that was amazing watching that. I was actually a little nervous after watching KK at the armory a few weeks ago and thinking about Muir having that extra 1500 in her legs. But... I think you have to say KK is prob too 5/6 in world right now and Muir just showed she’s a class above her. Really looking forward to the 15 and hope she goes for a good time. Finishing up on Sunday light with Muir going under 4 mins would be amazing.

I think it’s hard to predict and a volatile place at the top of athletics - but I feel that Muir has made a bit of a leap this winter after graduating. And I guess if a 355 and consistent sub 4 runner has made a leap - feel that we could see her down in the low 350’s later this summer in the right race.

Apologies if sound like a fan boy - but been a while since Scotland has had a T&F Star like this - and she’s down to earth and nice at the same time.

Every single European country is fiercely independent and protective of their culture and identity. Most states tolerate the EU as they see the benefits in free trade agreements and most members get a net financial benefit from being a member. Stop talking bollocks.
